Try it again Pengy...it's working for me, I've just planted a whole heap of strawberries  .

I promised myself that I was going to substantially reduce the amount of time that I spend on the computer and then I go and discover myFarm on Facebook  . I do have a good excuse though...LA Galaxy and David Beckham are playing in Auckland...so guess what DS and hubby are watching on TV. It was bed, bath or PC to escape the dreaded football on the TV for me. Computer wins every time :oops::oops:

We got in now - and James has discovered My Farm! Hes now moaning that there are no pigs or sheep!!!

We went over to visit Marks farm and James was so impressed to see the Horse we had just given - he saw it straight away in the gifts!

Now he's just waiting for our wheat to grow - we'll have some ready to harvest later today!

Something odd is happening to my Myfarm.

The actual farm itself is fine & all the animals there, but when I go to the gfts page the horses, cows & hens all say that I need to download a new version of Flash. Odd, they were fine yesterday.

Anyone else had this?

THIS IS A VIRUS DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE FLASH UPDATE!

If you are worried that you have the 'Facebook' virus the symptoms are as follows;

Computer runs very slowly and unstable. Internet browsing behaves like a stroppy child and takes you to sites you didn't aim for. You will also find accessing Anti-virus sites such as Symantec extremely difficult.

if you click 'Ctrl-alt delete' to get Task manager up, then click 'processes' and you can see a process in the list called 'Tinyproxy' you are infected. Highlight it and click 'end process', but do not reboot as it will re-invent itself.

You then need to go to your internet browsers settings and untick 'use proxy server' box, (network settings I think). Your internet settings should then be restored to somewhere near the original settings. you should now be able to run Anti-virus and access Anti-virus sites if you need to update signatures etc.

The virus file itself is called Bolivar28.exe although the number at the end may be different. It is located in the Windows directory. Other files that need deleting include fmark2.dat, Kenny1.exe (or similar). There were some other files mentioned in the cure i found but they were not present when i looked and I can't remember what they were called, something like f32xd223.dll but don't quote me.

I found that once the AV software was able to run it cleared it all up ok.

If you have made any online purchases since 'updating' your flash-codecs from a facebook prompt then you should consider informing your bank or at the very least keeping a very close eye on your account.

All advice offered above is taken entirely at your own risk, but once you have stopped the 'tinyproxy' process you should be able to find your own answers and most AV programs should sort it out ok, but you may need to disable 'system restore' if the AV is unable to 'heal' the system.

I hope this helps. I am sorry if the above instructions are vague but I am working from memory using my Linux machine and I am not as familiar with Windows as I used to be, (thankfully) and can't recall the exact steps unless I have one in front of me.

Edit: you also need to delete 'Tinyproxy.exe' from the Start-up menu too, hopefully the AV should do this.

Tessa - I thought you had a mac? If so, you wont have the virus as its .exe and macs don't recognise .exe

You are correct Fred, I am a Mac user. I know I don't have a virus, but I do have a huge problem with using Applications on Facebook, I am getting Words"Ooops, word censored!"er withdrawals and I suspect all the crops I planted on myFarm have died :( Thank goodness I don't have to feed my virtual chickens :)
