insomniac chickens!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Posted on here a few days ago that chickens were getting up in the middle of the night. Well tonight it's got plain ridiculous!!! :x Have been trying to close the eglu door for nearly an hour (because we're are forcast a heavy frost) and everytime I go out to close it the bloomin' chickens come out into the run!!!

Now, are they not sleeping well because they are cold, hungry or what? Should I just leave them or maybe shut the eglu door a lot earlier. The reason for closing it so late was because they do pop out for a late night snack.

Think these girlies have got me over a barrel!!!!!! Hope I've not started something as we are going away on Thursday till Saturday and leaving them at the mercy of my son!!! :? Don't really want him to close eglu door as sometimes he doesn't get up till midday - chooks would be well annoyed with that!!! :x

Mine are the same, whenever I let the dog out they are in their run.

They hear the back door open in their sleep I think!

I have had to get crafty now and when/if they do venture inside I go out the front door, in the side gate and creep up on the Eglu from behind and shut the door quickly. Its pants if they have blocked up the door with wood chippings as I can't close the door first time and they get out again!

I have taken reassurance from some of the experienced chicken keepers on here who leave their Eglu door open and have done that from time to time, if its really frosty and the girls are playing me up I close the door just over half way to keep the worst oif the cold breezes out and leave them to it!
