Saw this and not sure if it is a good idea?

Hi

Was looking on Ebay at Eglus, just browsing HONEST!!!!! Don`t tell OH!!

Anyways I saw this pic on a listing and am not sure if it is pure genius or a waste of time.

If my girls are in the Eglu run I can`t see them as i have the winter shade and the sun shade on trying to keep it a bit dry in there.

Maybe this little roof could be the answer and the stop gap until Father in Law gets back from New Zealand to build me my perm run

Let me know your thoughts........

It's a good idea but it won't stop the chooks getting wet! The wind we get around this country will drive heavy rain right under it. You can't tell how heavy is is either, one good gust could have that away with a canopy!

Anyway, it's an easy enough build. I don't think I'd buy one though :?

I can really recommend the glass clear tarpaulins if you still want to see through to the girls but keep them dry. They make them plenty big enough to cover the run floor to floor.

We use two sheets of corrigated plastic during the winter months, reducing to one sheet in the spring and then removing the last altogether in the summer months. It's held in place with three bungee straps. The picture below shows the run with both sheets in place.

Works very well, chooks stay nice and dry during the winter, but don't get too hot during the warmer weather of spring and summer.

We bought three clear plastic carpet runners, unrolled each one and hooked them over the eglu run - held in place by some old shower curtain hooks. Not as cheap as a clear Ikea shower curtain, but a little sturdier, I think. Anyway, it provides reasonable shelter from the rain and lets in whatever light there is this time of year.

I saw this -I watch eBay too!! - & thought if they went to the trouble of making this much, why not go the whole hog & make it a proper run, with more protection on the sides?

As others have said before, it will only protect when the rain is vertical, ours is often horizontal & when accompanied by the icy wind which has been here over the past few weeks, it would just blow through the sides.

We have recycled 6 sheets of plastic corrugated sheet from my dad's stash & attached them almost from skirt to skirt to protect the little girls, although they prefer my back porch if given a choice!!

I am at home with mum and dad for a few days and my LOVELY daddy has been having a little lookie on the forum and agrees "why not just build a walk in run!?"

I have been conveniently leaving the RUN INSPIRATION photos on the screen and my brother (carpentry trained) and Dad (dab hand with a screwdriver!) have been browsing the lovely pics.

Just need to get them both to St Neots at the same time without any rain!!
