Beccy and Niki
We got 2 ginger nut rangers at the beginning of October from a highly recommended breeder. We picked our two girls and the breeder indicated that they would be laying in about 2 weeks. Well Marjorie took about 4 weeks to lay her first and she has been laying nearly every day since. Joyce on the other hand still hasn't laid. Her comb and wattle have got bigger and redder and she has being doing that funny squatting down movement for about 10 days. She's also much noisier than Marjorie making funny squeeking noises all the time (she has done this since the day we picked her up) Any ideas anybody? What is wrong with our little Joyce? Or do you think she's just a late developer?
Redwing
If she is squatting it can't be long now!
badgerbluebadger
Ella has just laid today after 9 weeks and a day of being delivered. I cleaned out the nest box and she just went in and laid. Don't worry it can't be long now!

Hendy
2 of mine are past the age where they should start laying, but only one is. Neither of them have done any squatting though! Hope she gets laying soon!
Mutrix Farmers
Don't give any treats, just layers mash or pellets, it could be they aren't getting enough of something to trigger laying becuase they are filling up on other things. Interesting question though, will every hen ultimately lay an egg or do some never lay anything?
laurmurf
a friend of mine has a 3 year old cream legbar that has only ever laid 4 eggs in her life.
Egluntyne
The time of year and shorter daylight hours will be holding her back. Shouldn't be long now though.
Lesley
As Egluntine says - shorter daylight hours do affect them at this time of year - shouldn't be long now though. It is possible to have a complete non-layer........but it doesn't seem to happen often.
Omletina Kyckling
I'm not entirely convinced that Matilda has ever laid...I put a few eggs down to being hers, as they were slightly darker brown and she's meant to lay dark brown eggs, but I'm not so sure now. I got her in June and have never seen her in the nest box, other than to sleep, she's never squatted and her comb isn't that big, she's very twitchy and a bit of a loner. I've never had a full house with eggs, often had five from my six (when I had six) but never six! I think I may have a faulty hen!!
Clur
One of my girls is over a year old and has never laid an (edible) egg. We've had a couple of weird shaped ones from her, but that's been twice in the year we've had her. She has a smaller comb than the other two too, so can only assume she has never reached full maturity for some reason.
