stevekrh19
I read that in Italy they often feed their hens on corn and carrots only. This is supposed to give them a bright orange yolk (good for pasta making) and an amzing flavour.Has anyone got any other ideas about what to feed my hens to get great flavoured eggs. Guest
Mine survive on a diet of Layers pellets, supplemented with all the slugs and snails the girlies can find, the occasional earywig or fly, and the occasional handful of spinach, tomatoes, sweetcorn or strawberry tops. Oh! And yoghurt and porridge mixed together. They lay DELICIOUS eggs!
Lesley-Jean
I wouldn't have thought that diet would have enough protein and calcium among other things to be good for egg laying. Fine as extras in the afternoon but not all day long Marigold pettals will make the yolks yellower too. I just had a look on google about eggs and come up with some very interesting sites, Here is just a few of them http://www.goodegg.com/trivia.html http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/eggs/res04-consumer.html http://www.poultryhelp.com/eggtrivia.html
Egluntyne
I read somewhere that Nasturtium petals will cause orange yolks.
ali-s
I've read adding Paprika to the feed will give deep orange yolks.

Martin B
I might give them some carrots!
Lesley-Jean
I think they might need to be cooked to soften them Martin. Hens rarely have teeth
