Prolapsed vent - am I getting it right?

well i put the chickens to bed at about 5 pm then at 9pm i let the dogs out to go to the toilet there was the eglu upside down the poor little chickens the where getting squashed by the bars luckily they where plastic the wooden ones would proberly kill the little pekins, any way i brought them inside and put them in a hemcore filled box and put them in the kitchen just incase it happened again i got such a shock though so today i put loads of massive rocks onto the skirt so it doesnt happen again did this happen to any one else? but i did have the winter shade on the eglu at the time so it might have made a wind tunnel effec

I am really surprised the wind shifted an Eglu, mind you I drove to Scotland last night and the wind was really awful.

 

Hopefully the heavy stones will do the trick

Hi Aaron, I'm not very surprised. Here in York the wind was terrible last night, and when I let the dogs out at 11pm the eglu and run (with winter shade) had rotated 45 degrees. Chickens not very happy at all!

 

(Am very excited because tonight is their first night in their new Cube!)

How awful, I am going to peg my eglus run down and probably put a line of bricks around the skirt when it is set up. The omlet man advised us to do that when we had the cube delivered and set up.

I'm suprised and sorry to hear that happened Aaron. Thanks for the warning though. I've created a bit of a wind tunnel with tarps in preperation for our winters here in New England and will be out today properly staking the run down.

I always weigh my Eglu runs down, because of the gusts, but also to deter Monsieur Reynard's efforts.

 

They stayed put , but next doors fence didn't.

Gosh, I never thought an eglu would overturn . I'm glad your girls are OK, Aaron . They must've got a fright .

 

My run plus eglu used to lift and move a few inches (because of the rain cover) but I've weighted it down and it stays put now.

hiya the winds are just as bad but the weeight have kept it down but today i let them free range and the little pekins was getting blown away she looked like a little hover craft poor little thing i had to lock them up so they didnt get blown over the fence or anything.
