There is quite a bit writen about noromectin in the chicken clinic section!

Glad you girls will be sorted Laura. You could feed some of the eggs back to the hens (cooked of course), the extra protein will help with feather regrowth!

Feather mites aren't easy to diagnose, so glad that he spotted it. I would keep hold of that vet

 

Hope it sorts out the problem and they are fully feathered soon.

i thought about a usb microscope. cost abot £40 from Maplin, for just this sort of thing, & dogs. it is hand held & has 200 x magnification. think I might get one now! any thoughts folk s

and when mum said "oh erm they live in an Eglu" he put his thumbs up and went "oohh brilliant. What colour?" .

You are so lucky to have a vet that knows anything about chickens.

 

When I took one of mine in recently the vet suggested we had one killed to do an autopsy on her to find out what was wrong with them I just told her that would she suggest the same idea to someone who had dogs or cats (I think not)? Thankfully because of this forum and lots of books (one in particular which is great and very cheap Teach Yourself - Keeping Poultry) I told her what medication I needed for them. Thankfully I was right about their respitory infection and Baytril and it cleared up.

 

Good advice and have book marked this thread in case I need it in the future. Thanks for posting it Laura.

We went to Maplin yesterday and were shown a usb microscope but the cost was almost £90.

Are there 2 different sizes of these microscopes?

Noromectin is made by Norbrook Pharmaceuticals and contains ivermectin as does Xeno 200 which is often recommended on this forum for the treatment of lice, mites etc.

yes look on there website, there are 2 lower models one at £5.99
