food in the cube/eglu

Recommended Posts

do you mean leaving the food in the grub overnight? Then, yes, I do. I've read lots about careful people (like Egluntine) who take the food adn water in every night to stop ice and vermin and I realise that I'm a lazy chook mum... I leave them in overnight and break the ice in the morning. I've not spotted vermin but with 3 cats I'm hoping we'll manage to keep that down. The only food thieves I've got are the local robins and wrens!

I do store all the food indoors in small quantities in lidded tubs or outdoors in large amounts in metal bins with lids.

I was sorry to hear about losing your chooks, good luck with your Omlet future and your choice of girls. There's lot of info about local breeders and poultry suppliers around the country on here.

A lot of my chicken keeping friends keep food in the coup (wooden) to help prevent rats getting it. The food is kept in traditional type feeders, tophat type but these are hung from the wooden beams across the top of the coup

With the cube I'm not sure there is the room or anywhere to hang the feeders.

I'm just looking at all the feeders and drinkers on the omlet shop now.
