JeremyH
I've had my3 girls for about 2.5 months and the have just got into a laying routine. 3 a day most days. All seemed well. Today however I came home at lunchtime and noticed that the two (Babs &Bunty) were pecking at the rear end of (Ginger) . They are def top dogs having come into lay about 2 weeks before Ginger. Ginger is quite happy but her rear is a bit bloody and battered. It doesnt seem to around her vent but off to the side? I have separated them for the time being and hve got some antiseptic spray. Any thoughts?
Christian
Sorry to hear that Jeremy Hens are attracted to blood, so make sure that she is fully healed before she goes back in with the others. You can get a spray from horsey shops - ask for purple spray. It disguises the area and will hopefully prevent further pecking. If not, try an anti peck spray from pet shops. 'Bitter beak' is one I have used in the past. Tea tree oil mixed with water also helps as it tastes vile and is antiseptic. If this doesn't work try BUMPER BITS for the 'attackers'. Good luck. sandyhas3chucks
Do you free range? If so you will be watching them, and IF you can let her free range with them so they are not totally separated all the time that will be good or reintroducing will be harder. If you can keep them separated yet in sight /next to that is good. good luck
JeremyH
Thanks for the advice. I managed to get some antiseptic powder today and gave her rear end a good dusting. It smells like powdered dettol and the others dont seem to like it too much. I ve put them back together in the Eglu tonite and they seemed quite happy. Tomorrow Im going to divide up there netted area in two so that they can be together but apart for a while. A horsey freind is getting me some purple spray so hopefully all wil be well

JeremyH
The powder is called vetinary bacterial powder. It seems to have dried up the bloody area. Ive now noticed that babs has a bald patch around her vent. Cant get at Bunty as shes on the nest at the moment. So am not sure whats going on?
