lay
Pongo is 14 weeks old this weekend, we would like to start letting them free range (when we are about) We let her out before, she is so small and light (Bantam) and was like a jack in the box, so are not confident enough to do it again until she has been clipped. Is 14 weeks too young?
Jools
I think so but I'm not sure. I've just put four of my 14wk old bantam cockerals in the back garden and I'm debating clipping their wings. I have read that they should be 6 months old, but I don't know why. Hopefully someone else here can tell us!!
melcotton
we picked up 3 12 week old chickens last week and their wings had already been clipped. I think you just need to keep an eye on them as they semi moult from this age until they start laying and if they moulted the flight wings and regrew new ones you would need to do it again. I can't see what harm it could do Mel
AnnieP
I don't see the harm either. The Omlet chickens are about 18 weeks when they arrive and they get their wings clipped on delivery....
