First WHITE egg from the Leghorns - but which one?

Recommended Posts

First 4 egg day plus - I was very pleased to find a beautiful white egg nestling in with three other eggs this morning a present from one of my two Leghorns - not sure which one though. We had been told that one could lay a blue egg (Pearl the Splash Leghorn) as her mother layed blue eggs so she was hatched from a bluey. Breeder thinks that a Legbar must have got in somewhere in the past  . So will have to be extra vigilent tomorrow to see if I can spot which girlie it is.

The !eggwhite! weighed in at 48g (the one to the right is 64g). Am eagerly awaiting my first blue one now from Evadne!

I think I might have worked out who layed it as Marigold the Buff Mottled Leghorn always insists on sleeping in the (cube green) nest even when I move her she still manages to move back. I say 'manages', as Dorabella my (now rather large) Speckled Sussex always roosts in the doorway through to the nest with her head poking into the nest and her bum over the roosting bars. She is so big now she fills the hole :lol: , she looks hilarious :D

Tonight Marigold has roosted with the other 6 so maybe it is her who layed the !eggwhite! plus, she has grown an enormous (now floppy) comb in the last 2 weeks, no crouching though.

I was just wondering the same thing now we have lost our only white egg layer. We miss those lovely white eggs.

Go on you know you want to :D:lol:

Sadly no white eggs today though. Plus my other Leghorn's comb has almost doubled in size since the beginning of the week. So hopefully even more !eggwhite!!eggwhite!!eggwhite!!eggwhite!!eggwhite!!eggwhite!!eggwhite!:D

Well it is definitely Marigold the Buff Mottled Leghorn laying as I've caught her in the act a couple of times this week. The eggs are so lovely and smooth too - much more so than my other girls' eggs.

Just waiting for my other 3 new girls to join her. Hopefully we will then have another white egg layer (or maybe blue from what the breeder told us) and either blue or olive from our Cream Legbar and a standard egg colour from our Speckled Sussex.

Marigold the White Egg Layer (after doing a bit of 'gardening' for me  )

Marigold is so beautiful . .

I'm just off out to make sure they've all gone to bed so I'll tell her (I think she knows though!) :D . She is very cheeky too as she is always the one to make a break for it if she thinks she can slip behind my legs when I go into their run.
