Snowy
Was in the chicken shop today buying ukadex for my girls pecked bums Got talking to the owner and he felt that the pecking was brought on by stressful situations. He recommended orego-stim, as well as helping with stress, it has all sorts of remarkable properties! Looking at the ingredients, it is basically a herbal solution of oregano. Anyway, I bought some and will give it a try, but wondered if anyone else had seen it or tried it yet? It certainly smells lovely! http://orego-stim.com/Naturalsupplementsforsmallholdings/Domesticated_fowl/tabid/88/Default.aspx
Groovychook
The breeder we got our araucana's from gave us a small amount to give to all of our new girls for the first week to help them settle in... nice man! All I know is that he raved about it- said it was fantastic stuff. He does some work at River Cottage- 'talks' I think, so he must know his stuff! helenmb
I posted about this product last year here is my thread, I didn't get any at the time but would be interested if others find it beneficial.
Snowy
Sorry, I missed it at the time Helen. Must admit I find some of the claims wildly extravagant, but I liked the idea that it might help my pecking problem. Oh well, we'll see! ali-s
I add dried Oregano occasionally to pellet porridge or a bowl of grated Carrot. I used to give Oregano everyday but got out of the habbit. I read about it on the p p forum but now can't remember why it is beneficial , the Chickens like it anyway
The Dogmother
I'd be interested to hear what you think Snowy; someone was singing its praises to me at the weekend and I've never used it myself.
C&T
Mine have all self medicated on Oregano... Used to have a lovely little plant! Not sure if they had any health benefits as a result, but I do know they were threatened with a much shorter life expectancy when I needed Oregano for a recipe and found that I had none! To be honest I can't really say that I have noticed a difference They are still knicker pecking and bumper bits will be going on very shortly. Although I have noticed a bit more 'bounce' in them all lately - at least, more of them seem to be able to 'bounce' over their fence and escape
