Softie trouble?

Recommended Posts

Mum just called me at work. She's worried about her ex-batt - Alice. She's described that yesterday she wasn't as perky as normal and let my dad stroke her all over (She's never really been a cuddly hen) she also isn't especially rushing for treats and is barely touching her food. My mum said this morning there was yolk in the house and Alice wouldn't go outside as normal. I presrcibed that she's probably dealing with a softie. Difficult to say without seeing her for myself. I advised trying to make sure she's drinking and tempting her with some sweet grapes for energy (And if she turns her beak up at grapes then we KNOW it's bad) then see how she is in 24hrs by which time any softie issues shoul've passed. Not sure what else it would be. She's standing ok and doesn't appear wobbly, just depressed. Her botty is a little inflamed - but then it usually is red looking as it never really feathered up since she was rescued, plus Poppy keeps plucking any new quills.

What do you guys think? Am I probably right or could it be something else?

UPDATE

Alice is fine now! My mum says the next day she was running around good as new so to speak. So glad my prognosis was correct and it wasn't anything more serious.

She gets grit, oyster shell and occasional limestone flour so I know it's not an issue of being deficient in calcium etc. She an ex-batt my mum has had for almost a year so we think she's about 2 and a half and probably will be going through the henopause soon.

Thankyou for listening. xxx
