Cinnamon
I know there was some brief chat on another thread, but this film is so good I think it deserves a thread of its own We went to see this earlier in the week, I was expecting a good film but Hubby was a bit unenthusiastic about it. Well, we both loved it. It is very, very funny, moving & India looks amazing in it. I really cannot recommend it enough. Also I can't believe that little 'Anwar' from Skins has done so well for himself If you are dithering,go & see it.Take your teenagers too - its a film that every young adult should see
kitbag
I'm going to see it with my mum. I have heard lots of people reccomend it and I can't wait!
Dodge
Went with OH last night. This film is BRILLIANT You must go and see it. Word of warning it is a 15 and is shocking in parts. The acting is however out of this world. This is going to be the film of 2009. Regards Dodge
MedusA
I was planning to see this anyway, but thanks for the recommendations. I now know it's a must-see-soon.

Seagazer
My DD saw this during the week in France (in French) and said it was absolutely brilliant and one of the best films she has ever seen. She has told me I have to watch it.

poachedegg
Me and OH are thinking of going on Sunday night, however I don't usually 'do' gory/harrowing, so am a little unsure.
Olly
It is BRILLIANT! I don't like violence, and there are some quite violent scenes in it, but somehow it didn't bother me as much as, say, an 'action' film - the thread running through the whole film is so positive and upbeat, it's kind of a triumph over violence and misery and poverty and so on. You might cry, but I guarantee you will come out with a smile on your face!
Cinnamon
I would say that the parts that I found more harrowing was because we are living in the UK where things are clean & well organised. Its the culture shock of how Indian street urchins live & how they are treated by adults that is the harrowing part. That said, they are wonderfully cheerful & optimistic, & THAT is what makes the film so brilliant No real gore as such, although I did hide behind my scarf at one point, but that's more due to a phobia I have than anything else EDIT UPDATE - it has been nominated for a heap of Oscars too. Should win best cinematography & best director imho
~lizzy~
we have a work mate from India who has just come back from two months out there and has seen the film, she said it is a really good film although she doesnt like watching it. i asked if it is a true likeness and she said yes which is probably why she doesnt like to watch it. she says she wouldnt see it again but i must go and see it. The Dogmother
I bet it doesn't portray the smell of the slums though I shan't ever forget that!
Old Speckled Hen
Rightfully up for a number of Oscars. Wonderful score and screenplay. Well done Danny Boyle. See it. PS saw it with my daughter last week and will see it again with hubby next week and will buy the BluRay when it comes out.
Guest
you could see it, touch it, taste it, smell it!!! It's an amazing film and don't leave the cinema at the end, even the end credits are superb!
jill the potter
I totally agree with everyone's comments. I'm not a movie buff and if anything tend to fall asleep at the cinema, but this had me on the edge of my seat! It is totally unlike any film around at the moment. Everything about it is so well done, and the child actors, which I understand were from the streets, are absolutely brilliant. It is definitely a 'must see' film, and I would say best watched at the cinema!!!

Saronne
It's a brilliant film, but I would only call it a 'feel good' movie during the last 1/2 hour or so. Before that it's harrowing. The cinematography is fabulous, though. 5 * rating. Saronne

clueless chick
Went on a trip to Mumbia with OH a couple of years ago. What a culture shock the guide took us to almost all the touristy places but I was very upset and disturbed by what was happening in the city.the guide did not like anyone handing money to the children, esp the children carrying babies. Slumdog Millionaire is a good film, best film I have seen for ages and the young actors are really good also, such a shame they arent sharing the success, The guide recommended a novel called Shantaram writen by Gregory David Roberts, she said it was based on a true story. OH bought the book and even though we knew it was a true story could not believe it.
