Getting the roosting bars spotless

Recommended Posts

Hi

Have just been out to do the weekly clean of the (cube green)

I dont know about you but I find the hardest part about cleaning out the cube is getting the dried on bits of poop off the plastic roosting bars. :vom:

It would be a lot easier to scrub them clean if we could completely immerse the roosting bars in some hot soapy water, just for a few minutes to soften the poop. I'd wondered about getting a tall plastic bin to soak them in perhaps?

So my questions is - what's the best way to loosen dried on poop?

Lovely subject for a Sunday tea time, sorry folks !

I do the same as ANH, I use a tub trug of hot soapy water and put the roosting bars in at an angle then wander past about five mins later and turn them up the other way then after about five more mins use a brush to clean them with (I bought a tyre brush from Halfords, it looks like a giant folded in half pipe cleaner and gets in the gaps a treat)

During the time I am waiting for the bars to soak I clean the rest of the Eglu

I use a big tray that OH uses (USED :shh: ) when he changes oil on car. it is about three times the size of a large cat litter tray. Just add extra hot water and a bit of Ecover and soak whilst I scrubbed the rest of the eglu. Then a pot brush to scrub any extra tough bits.

To dry i give them a good shake (windmill styley!) and then dry off with old towel. Quick sray with dininfectant and than air dry.

Cube bars won't fit in a cat-litter tray. I just blast mine with a hose-pipe to get the poop off, and then scrub with hot water and Ecover, and a brush designed for scrubbing plant-pots with.

If I'm honest, they are probably not always spotless. Chickens don't seem to mind!
