sti chick
Had my hens for 1 week and they have seemed to settle nicely now. But a few of them are doing runny poohs its like a big brown splat on the floor ........nothing like pooh the other girls are doing. Started them on the worming stuff yesterday Flubervent (sp). They all seem perfectly well in themselves i have also given them a little poultry spice. They are 18 weeks old now and we have been feeding them on layers mash with a handfull of corn as a treat but we did give a few dried mealworm as a treat instead one day. keeping treats to minimum as advised to do so until they start to lay (just one treat per day). not quite sure what else i can do and they certainly don't look ill. any ideas would be welcome lin
ClaireG
I you have any probiotic yogurtn try mixing some in with their pellets or mash. It's good for chicken tums as well as ours!
sti chick
thank you. if it persists i willl deffo try this. there is one thing i find very strange the problem......runny pooh seems to be mainly in the morning. I have been to check on them and there is definately more normal pooh now and the same thing seemed to happen yesterday. i am completely baffled and will post in the chicken forum and ask if any others have experienced this. lin
Egluntyne
Is it every poo or just the occasional one? Every 10th or so poo tends to be like chip shop curry sauce. If it is every poo, I would keep them on pellets or mash with bokashi bran added and water for a few day. No treats. If you can get hold of some Avipro to add to their water, even better. If not, some probiotic yoghurt either added to the pellets/mash or separately, as has been suggested. Keep the diet very simple and the diarrhoea should settle. If it doesn't, then maybe a trip to the vet might be in order.
