They are like our little children aren't they? We chook mummys just know when something is just not right! ...

 

you're so right, I know their personalities, I know who likes what to eat, I know their little foibles and I know straight away when something isn't quite right. Fingers x'd I've spotted it in time and she responds well to the antibiotics, poor little poppet

Sandy her crop was blocked (not emptying) for about a week, she wasn't interested in food and and what she did eat wasn't getting through. The nasty watery white diarohea (sp!) lasted for well over a month, and during this time she lost condition and I thought she was going to die. She was also moulting

 

But now she's amazing, comb and wattles are reddening up, she's bouncy and full of life and a cheeky mare! And her feathers are coming back - even on her head, she looks like a punk rocker with all the little spikey bits

 

So if you're chicken gets ill all is not lost, they can get better

just to let you know, she's on her way back to recovery by the looks of it and back to digging Mariana's trenches (she's always been a potholing chicken!)

 

thanks again for all the advice, always helps to have a 2nd opinion (including the vet's!)
