thanks everyone xxx

They are like our little children aren't they? We chook mummys just know when something is just not right! ...

you're so right, I know their personalities, I know who likes what to eat, I know their little foibles and I know straight away when something isn't quite right. Fingers x'd I've spotted it in time and she responds well to the antibiotics, poor little poppet :anxious:

fingers crossed for a speedy recovery

How long was your ages Moomin. (for my comparison with blockage

Sandy her crop was blocked (not emptying) for about a week, she wasn't interested in food and and what she did eat wasn't getting through. The nasty watery white diarohea (sp!) lasted for well over a month, and during this time she lost condition and I thought she was going to die. :( She was also moulting :?

But now she's amazing, comb and wattles are reddening up, she's bouncy and full of life and a cheeky mare! And her feathers are coming back - even on her head, she looks like a punk rocker with all the little spikey bits :D

So if you're chicken gets ill all is not lost, they can get better :D

Hope yours is improving Poet

just to let you know, she's on her way back to recovery by the looks of it and back to digging Mariana's trenches ;) (she's always been a potholing chicken!)

thanks again for all the advice, always helps to have a 2nd opinion (including the vet's!) :D
