how do they know....

Recommended Posts

I recently got a second hand red eglu which is waiting for when I can get some rescue chooks but in the meantime it is all clean and lovely but unused. I leave the run open so my girls have a choice to go in if they want to or stick with my original pink one. However, they just don't go in the red one at all and even when they are roaming aroudn the garden they always lay in the pink one and go to bed in the pink one, even if I've moved it after cleaning it. I'd be hard pushed to tell the difference in colour when it is dark so how can my chooks tell the difference? Is it coz the pink eglu "smells like home"? even after it has been cleaned??

I'm just curious - my chickens fascinate me
