Yolky
Well since the run got turned upside down and the roof got a bit broken the auboise really gets wet. The roof is only broken in places but if we mend it the whole lot needs doing and at the moment we don't have the money/time. 90% of the run is protected so I feel the chooks are not really open to too many elements. Anyway I was wondering if we should replace the auboise with wood chip next time. The auboise is great but it does soak up all the rain that comes in through the couple of places that it is broken and seems to just stay damp. I thought that at least the wood chip would let the rain run through. (the run is on slabs too) Its just the auboise needs to be changed weekly to keep it dry, which is just too much for a 4metre by 2 metre run...so expensive to do that. So what do you experts think please.
Plum
I've been experimenting with combinations and although I am not experienced I would put woodchip in the bit that gets rained on and auboise on the sheltered part of the run.
blackgold
I would buy a cheap tarpaulin to cover the broken roof for now to keep the flooring dry. Love Sue xx
Helly Welly
My run is all woodchip anyway so i went for that. It lasts about three months with regular raking, although ours isn't on slabs.
chelsea
I would stick with aubiose but really ensure the run is covered 100% (just for the winter/wet weather). We have 3 perspex panels over our eglu run with bungee cords, with one panel slightly long at the front making a "porch" type area so the front doesnt get wet. I also have a tarpaulin that I cover over the top of the perspex (for double protection) that stays on overnight. I remove the tarpaulin by day to allow the sun in (if we get any!) So far so good, the run is bone dry (actually drier than my walk in run with proper roof).
