puddleduck
errrm... this will perhaps sound very stupid .... I am thinking about ordering and eglu and 2 chickens from omlet (as I have had no luck finding a second hand eglu near to me ) but , I would also like to get a 3rd chicken from somewhere else as I want 3 different looking chickens. If all 3 arrived on the same day/next day would this be ok? also would a breeder/garden centre sell a single chicken? many thanks (sorry about all the smillies, I just couldn't help myself!) The Dogmother
You'll be lucky to find a respected place that will sell just one hen If you get them all on the same day, they should be fine - the usual arguments, handbags at dawn, but it doesn't usually get nasty if you do that. Do make sure that they are very close in age and size though.
MadMitch
I got 2 different chickens from different places, there was a bit of pecking and chasing around but they settled down pretty quickly.
Groovychook
I got my girls on the same day from two separate breeders... two from one place and four from the other. I kept the two together in a cat box in my living room whilst OH went off to collect the other four. We then waited until it was dark before popping them all into the cube together! The first time they met, as such, was the following morning... it worked well for us!
ruth1
I got all my girls over a few days and they settled in fine with each other, they were all a couple of weeks apart age wise but since the run was new to them all I had no problems. WitchHazel
I got two girls from Wernlas, and a third girl on her own from another breeder, and picked them all up on the same day. This was all arranged in advance, and the breeder was OK about supplying one hen when I explained the circumstances. And when I turned up, of course, I had the other two in the car. It was fine. Bit of huffing and puffing, but they became a very happy trio, all dustbathed in the same bath together, no probs feeding, no squabbles over treats. Guest
This is exactly what I did. My eglu was due to arrive on the Monday with two Omlet chickens. On the Sunday I collected a single hen from Crofters Farm in High Wycombe. I tried another place but she wouldn't let me have just one hen, even when I explained the circumstances. When the eglu arrived the next morning, the 3 went in to their new home together with no problem. The Omlet delivery man said that the Omlet hens had only met that morning, and it was exactly the 'right way to do it'.
helenc
I had this dilemma when I got mine, I originally ordered 2 from Omlet and wanted a white one too, but in the end I cancelled the omlet hens and ended up getting 4 and got all of them from the same place as I had the same concerns about it being ok introducing them at different times to the eglu.
