clootie
I wasn't actually going to post anything after my previous comment but............ I have had every "joke" you can imagine about my being Scottish in the 20 years I have lived in England. You know, "Are you going to give me a Glasgow kiss", "See you Jimmy", "the best thing to come out of Scotland is Hadrian's wall", "Are you a drunk Scot, aggressive Scot or both?" and I have taken them in good spirit as I feel it says more about the people saying it than it does about me. But, when my son, who, incidentally was born in Hertfordshire, comes home from school upset as he has to put up with comments such as "Scottish scum" and "go back to where you came from" I kind of feel a little differently towards this so called "joke". I can honestly say I have never made any comment about any person for just being "English". We are all different and should be respected as individuals for the way we behave toward one another and not about where we come from, accent or not. To tar us all with the same brush is not only offensive it's is totally unfair.

Thats horrible and I have never heard a Scottish person referred to in such a way, I live/work in Essex where tolerance is generally at the "Daily Mail" level of tolerance but Scottish people have never been badly though of... I was thinking of the Scots as a proud nation who look down upon the English (acutally literally!) and the abuse that a friend of mine endured, good naturedly, when he lived in Aberdeen - for being English. My Glaswegan (sp) grandad apparently ALWAYS thought the English were beneath him - even though he lived most of his life in North London. chrisevans1001
I don't see what all the fuss is about to be honest. If you don't like what he says, don't watch him anymore. I doubt Mr Brown took a blind bit of notice anyway. (no pun intended)

My comments are in response to another made on the thread.
Saronne
Sorry, Rhapsody, it sounds as if you're suggesting I (and others) be driven to Afghanistan by JC just because we find his behaviour oaffish. The point here, is, that if JC can make comments that offend us, then we have the right to complain about them. Saronne
Rhapsody
I actually wasn't making any kind of comment on anyone here, as far as I was aware! What I was saying is that to find offence in such an innocuous insult (which was actually just a pure statement of fact) is to buy in to an idea that we are censored at every turn for our own good. This is totalitarian thinking, something I find totally abhorrent, undemocratic and oppressive. I believe in the true spirit of political correctness, in that we should not use language that offends other people, if JC (who I've never agreed with in my life) had said "Gordon Brown is an idiot, probably because he's only got one eye." that would be different, but he didn't. Of course everyone who finds this offensive has the right to complain, that is precisely democracy in action, but take away JC's right to free speech and you have to sacrifice your own too. Or move to a regime that suits your mind-set better. I don't remember anyone getting so upset when 'one-legged' Heather Mills McCartney was lambasted so roundly in the press. I seem to recall her disability was dragged in at every turn, but she was seen as fair game
Egluntyne
After his ill considered remarks about lorry drivers I would have expected him to engage brain before mouth when not working from a script. He will be skating on thin ice, career wise, if he keeps offending sections of the viewing and listening public with his tiresome utterances. Mutrix Farmers
I agree with Egluntine. JC has made a career out of being a loud mouthed and self opinionated. It's why some people love him, and others don't. Suppose he's a bit like Marmite really!!
Guest
life would be boring if everyone watched what they said, what on earth would we find to whinge...erm, I mean... talk about? I'd just say this... you can't control what people say to you or about you but you can control the way you react to it. Easier said than done sometimes, I know, but if you smile and treat it like water off a duck's back, they've gained nothing, but you have! Egluntyne
By totally ignoring the ill judged remarks, Gordon Brown has emerged the greater man, whether you agree with his politics or not.
Guest
. Suppose he's a bit like Marmite really!! I think that just about sums him up. Some of us like him because he's loud mouthed, opinionated and a bit of a lad. I believe some people also like watching "reality" TV and endless "talent" shows! Saronne
I'd agree with that, Egluntine. GB has come out the better man for ignoring JC's comments. But then, politicians have got to have thick skin, or they'd never last a day! Saronne

fowlbird
Clarkson is a moron! - fits the tune doesn't it? Shame the rest of the lyrics don't though - "just cos he's better looking than me, just cos he's cool and trendy..." Dont think Clarkson EVER met those criteria! I've never really listened to the rest of the lyrics - that's the bit my OH keeps shouting out!
Guest
DH is a big fan of John Shuttleworth, aka Graham Fellows, aka Jilted John of Gordon is a Moron fame.
Guest
I regularly use this video of that song as a lesson starter - the kids love it and they could make one easily There is also a brilliant one of Bernar Cribbins "Right Said Fred". Actually after watching yours I was intregued by another one of Gordon Brown which is an old song I've heard before (rude so I won't mention it) BUT of the pictures on there of GB showed him smiling and he looked VERY attractive. HELP ME - JC & GB - I think I'm getting desperate!

chrisevans1001
The Russel Brand thing I have the same opinion of. Don't like it, don't listen. Free country. We don't need to be nannied by our government and told what we can and cannot say.
Saronne
We're not the government. We're the people, and we're complaining...don't like it? Don't read it. Saronne
chrisevans1001
I don't mind you complaining, it's a free country. But no point in complaining about something you didn't need to watch. That's my free country speech over. I'll say no more.
