Cinnamon
1 raised bed, liberally scattered with dead leafs, weeds & grubs. plus 1 small handful of mixed corn plus 8 hens equals One beautifully tilled bed in about 20 minutes! Honestly, it was spotless by the time they had finished!

henny penny
Hi Cinnamon We are using a similar tactic on our rockery. Its difficult to weed and dig over - so we have allowed our girls to have a good scratch around and its already looking better! The rockery is quite steep and the kitchen looks out onto it - thinking of puting some edibles on it this year - although not sure what! Great tactic tho! bluekarin
My three were trying to be "helpful" today too. But, they weren't helping much at all. More of a hindrance really. I was emptying out a gap between our patio and the wall of some pebbles we'd put in there before we got the chooks, and they had emptied it out so often, it was looking dreadful. I also need to paint the wall and want to oil the pebbles so they look all shiny and you can see the gorgeous colours like when they've been rained on. But the girls were right under me trying to get at anything that might be edible Probably would have helped if I didn't chuck them the worms that I accidentally chopped in half oops
Ygerna
My girls have done more weeding and slug eating/killing in their short time here than my gardener has done in the three years he has been coming. So I have decided that between me and the girls we can do the garden from now on.
Tiggy
I did the same thing in the autum when I cleared the summer veg off, it was amazing how many bugs had taken up residence, the girls made very short work of the weeds & pests
Egluntyne
My girls have done more weeding and slug eating/killing in their short time here than my gardener has done in the three years he has been coming. Sounds as if you expect your gardener to eat slugs!
chickencam
My girls were so funny at the weekend, everytime we dug a hole they were in there, and got excited everytime we picked up a spade. I am amazed that they all still have a full set of toes They had huge crops by the end of the day, so many worms
Willow
I cleared and dug over one of our raised beds on Sunday, 2 of our girls joined me to keep an eye out for any worms and bugs I uncovered. It was lovely to have them helping
