Margalot
Yesterday my girls were out of their run and free ranging in their netted area (omlet netting) My daughter noticed that Bon bon and Tinker were pecking Midnight and she was not moving away....upon close inspection she appeared to be caught in the netting and they were really having a go at her rear end pecking her. My OH rushed out to free her and even as he was trying to get her out the other two refused to stop pecking even though he was shooing them away and pushing them away. i came to help and he put the other two in while I tried to free Midnight, we thought she had the netting wrapped round her neck but she didnt it was just through once and not tangled and she was just frozen to the spot! why did she not stop them pecking her? Her bot was sore from all their nastyness I gave her a cuddle and some broccoli as a treat. Would they have carried on attacking her if we weren't there to intervene? When they are out in the netted area I am not always closely watching and am now worried that it may happen again .
quickcluck
Oh poor girlies How is she today? Are there any open wounds? If it's very sore i'd put on some purple spray, and if the pecking continues get some anti peck spray... Johnsons do a good one from any pet shop, it does put the others off..... Chillicat
Oooohhh As per quickluck said, purple sray to heal the wound then add some Johnsons anti peck spray, which you can get from any pet shop. Sorry to say that we had a similar experience. We had 5 Omlet hens, 2 and 3 . One of the got pecked to death by the others . It all happens so fast and there is no mercy as they don't give in. I was at work during the day and kept them in the run; that's when it happened. We then had an episode of the other being picked on, but I was on the case straight away and managed to save her from the others by treating the wound with the purple spray, then dosing them all in the anti peck spray. Needless to say they now free range all day, as I find that they have room to escape each other if there is any naughtiness going on. TBH I would rather a fox get them while they were free ranging than the possibility of them torturing each other like that. It is terribly upsetting, and I hope you manage to control it. Good luck
