Busybird
Spent this morning at the local hospital (DD has broken her arm) and returned with three hungry children to the usual chicken cacophany that greets any arrivals or departures from our house (the girls 'let me out NOW' noises). DS1 went round to release them from the run while I made lunch. A bit of time passed and we hadn't seen them through the window so DD went out to check and came back to say they had vanished We all rushed out, DS1 and I went into the wood, DS2 to the road while DD searched the garden. She found Hazel and put her in the run but that was it. Even the neighbour who feeds corn to the pheasants and has cut a very conveniently sized hole in his fence to let them in had an empty garden (I had to push Ranger out from under a bush ('leave me alone mum - I like it here') with a stick last time they found this kind man I was beginning to think foxes and was looking for feathers around the garden when DD found them They have scratched out a hollow at the base of a large tree and made a comfy little hidey hole. They were probably there the whole time wondering why we were rushing around madly Hazel was not impressed that she had been shut in the run on her own though and totally ignored the treats offered as appeasment until she too was snuggled down with her friends. I love to give them the freedom of the whole garden but they are such a worry

Janty
What a relief that you found them. Hope your daughter's arm doesn't give her too much pain. Jan
Busybird
DD fell over taking off her riding boots and whacked her arm on a flowerpot She can't pick up her chicken to give hugs so Hazel is getting a lot of extra corn
Chook n Boo Mum
Dangerous things these flower pots, especially when combined with the riding boots! Almost as bed is the wellies and Omlet netting combo - I tweaked my back by getting my boot hooked up in the top of the netting as I swung my leg over (on more than one occasion too )...have yet to land on the ground unceremoniously or break anything though (famous last words...!) Hope the arm heals quickly, and what cheeky chooks you have - it must be in the genes ! Sha x
MedusA
Sounds like they were having a lovely dustbath, completely oblivious to your panic. I'm glad it was a happy ending though. Hope your DD's arm heals quickly and isn't too sore. *hugs*
