Single hen

I have patiently waited since last May for at least a glimmer of an egg and finally one of my Pekin Bantams has almost over night sprouted an amazing big pillar box red comb and for about a week has been crouching (even for the cat ). Am I looking at a 'any day now' timescale or could I still have some time to wait?

 

I have told the girls that if I don't get an egg by May 2009 their fate was on the line - this was said with my fingers crossed behind my back! they were about 10 weeks when I got them May 2008.

 

Still believing eggs are a myth

Fabulous - you're giving me hope! Bunty, our Cream Legbar was 12 weeks last May and hasn't laid a single egg. Am so fed up with lack of blue eggs that I've ordered new chickens which are coming next week!

Our Cream Legbar sprouted a huge comb almost overnight about a month ago now.... still no egg. Though I doubt she'll ever crouch, flighty little madam.....

Good news that another hen crouched for me this morning - she's white (in my avatar) and has overnight developed the most stunning red comb which stands out amazingly against the white I'm getting a bit excited now!

Any day now........Egluntine says within a week . My Buff Sussex, who we hatched last September crouched for me yesterday for the first time and every time I go near her, she almost flattens herself to the ground Nice big red comb too..........wonder if we'll get her first egg within a week

woo hoo I got an egg! yay I found it this morning but think it must have been laid yesterday. I checked at lunch yesterday & there was nothing. When I let them out this morning I checked & found it. Man the relief is amazing!

I have a sneaky suspicion it is the little white Pekin who has only just started crouching because she was acting a bit odd on sunday and was seperating herself out from the group.

All I need to do now is buy a bantam egg skelter which I promised myself when the 1st egg arrived.
