Four new ex-batt hens

Recommended Posts

I am new to this site but have been checking here for tips and ideas since getting some hens in June.

On Saturday we added to our flock with four ex-battery hens. I just want to say how much i was enjoying them. They have come in just a few days they are now scratching around and even dust bathing in the saw dust in the run. They are all eating (ex-batt crumb + poultry spice) and drinking (water + battles) well and have started to recognise other foods especially live meal worms and corn.

They are separate from the other four at the moment but in time will be mixed in a soon to be built walk in run and cube. i have been looking on here for inspiration.

Ex-batts are the best - I love mine more than the others, but don't tell. Of all my hens these are the friendliest and will actually come for a pick up and cuddle - I get the feeling the others don't care - as long as the food keeps coming.

Especially since other humans were mean and kept them in cages - amazing how much they have come on since last year.

I have 4 beautiful ex-batt girls - aren't they just the best!!

You will be amazed at how much they improve week by week and you get to know their funny little characters more and more.

When we first rescued them, i thought they would frightened little things and we may never be able to handle them, but they are so unbelieveably tame and love being with us, having cuddles!

Enjoy every second you have with them and well done you for giving them a lovely life now after the terrible start they went through.
