Luvachicken
Thanks for all the advice on cleaning the ladder in the eglu cube. I'm afraid I don't really use the computer that often so I should really brush up on my skills. My chickens have settled in really well and my dog just gives them an initial chase and then can't be bothered. The other day though, whilst the chickens were wandering around the garden, Evie ( Miss Pepperpot) found a toad with which to play with. Now, I don't know if the poor thing was already dead or if Evie killed it Do chickens eat toads ? and what about frogs ? I have a pond so will the wildlife survive the chickens...... Apart from using the omlet netting, are there any plants that are chicken proof? Also, I am cleaning the pooh tray and rungs every other day, is this right - there does seem to be a lot of pooh from 3 girls. Matilda Charlotte Evie (always last in) but has laid 6 eggs so far Edited February 25, 2009 by Guest
Plum
I've heard a few omleteers say frogs and toads are a delicacy for chickens. I empty the poo tray every couple of days, they do poo a lot. Some only empty them weekly so don't worry. I don't think it matters how often you wash the ladders unless you are cube proud and want them to stay like new. I wash them when I wash the cube every week or so, but everyone does different.
Luvachicken
I'm glad I seem to be cleaning them properly. I get an odd satisfaction taking 1/2 hr or so making them clean.

purple hen
Mine enjoy a tasty toad or frog, they also like to stand on the mesh pond cover and fish through the gaps for tadpoles and pond weed
