Alfred
I am trying to grow some veggies so need some chicken netting to confine the girls to the other end of the garden. The omlet netting looks very good but does anyone know of any cheaper alternatives??
Falkor
I picked up some pond/veggie netting from B&Q for £4.00 last weekend. It comes as a big sheet (4mx4m?) but I cut it into stripes and used bamboo and a few cable ties to support. It is only about 75cm tall but my girls seem to want to go over it, that would take far too much effort I was consiering more Omlet netting but £4.00 compared to £62.00 seemed to make MUCH more sense. Hen Watch
Alfred, my comparisons were made a year ago so not sure if the same pricewise today. But last year I found the moveable netting and poles from other online suppliers roughly the same or a bit more than Omlet. Also other suppliers netting was either bright orange (I prefer green to blend in with the garden) or they came with less poles and was cheaper until you added extra poles which made it similar price. So for me the 25m Omlet netting has been my best buy in my whole 2 year chicken keeping experience. It comes with spare poles and I have used every single one (in fact I could do with a few more). We initially used fruit netting to fence off the veg beds but the chooks kept flying over them and eating it all. In the end my hubbie said the chooks had to have their own area of garden and for us the Omlet netting was the best option. Especially as I have them in different areas of the garden depending on the season and the Omlet netting takes 30 mins to move. You do need to buy some cheap tent pegs from Argos or similar to peg down the netting to the lawn. Other than that I really rate it.
Falkor
Ooooh sorry, mis read your post. I have the Omlet netting to keep the girls in their end of the garden and I LOVE IT. Best £60 spent since began backyard chicken keeping. Occasionally they have access to other bits of garden hence my pond netting purchase. I meant £4 spent is better that ANOTHER £
Plum
When I looked into it Omlet was the cheapest and you get more poles. If you go to an agriculture show you may find a bargain.
Alfred
Thanks for the advice - think it may be cheaper in the long run, and easier, just to go for the omlet stuff!
