Cinnamon
You should certainly be excited I started out with 2 & now have 5 big hens & 4 baby Bantams - be warned....chickens are addictive They are just great - they are easy to keep & the Eglu makes it even easier, the eggs are wonderful & the chickens have great characters. I don't think keeping chickens is beyond anyone - Heck,we even have a few male chicken keeping forum members,& it they can do it....... CannyCat
I was exactly the same, before my eglu arrived - would I make a good ChickenMama? Would they be too noisy? Would I have to get up at the crack of dawn? But now they're here I love them to bits! I let my two out of the eglu at 8, which is when I get up to go to work. They dont seem to mind at all
chelsea
The waiting is the worst bit. We've had our eglu for 1 week, chickens have settled in it very well, our chickens are let out pretty early (sometimes before 6am) but i dont think it has to be any particular time, as long as its as early as you can. They go in the eglu on their own when its bedtime. You will love having chickens (we do) they are SO entertaining and they certainly arent stupid, we sit and watch our girls for ages, my husband works with chickens all day but since having the eglu - our chickens have opened his eyes to how interesting they actually are !! Ask on here for any friendly advice. Let us know when it arrives
feemcg
Hi there, I've had my pink eglu and 3 chickens (snap!) for 2 weeks and I'm loving it. They are so funny to watch - a neighbour brought a jar of worms last night and we were in stitches watching them race round the garden trying to steal them from each other. I let them out about 7.30 into the run then out the run for about an hour in the afternoon and an hour or two before bedtime - i love how they put themselves to bed at dusk. We've had 11 eggs so far, including a huge double yoker. Any problems I've had I got fantastic support and advice on this forum so theres no need to panic. CarolineW
Keeping chickens is brilliant and so rewarding as they are such charactures. The eglu is so user friendly and safe-I had a pheasant in my garden sitting on 18 eggs which unfortunately we lost to a badger visit, however, our chicks were 100% safe in their eglu. You'll never look back.As for the eggs,my husband says if there are too many eggs in the fridge we need to make more cakes! The Dogmother
You'll be fine, and besides you'll make so many friends on here. I don't close the Eglu door unless it's sub-zero at night - they go out into the run when they want to. They have rarely been to the vets, and mine are 'delicate' pure-breeds As for eggs.... when we have too many, Rosie sells them and donates the money to the BHWT
