The Dogmother
There certainly are minis in wyandottes, here are a couple of pictures of mine Ruby, silver laced wyandotte at the back and Sadie, silver pencilled wyandotte at the back. Ruby at the back here Good strong birds, who never seem to ail and lay beige eggs in decent quantities.

Mrs Webmuppet
My mini Orpington, Bromley is really docile and according to LMW gives good cuddles. She has laid a beige egg every other day since she started laying last week (averages 34g).

Thanks thanks indie
The Dogmother
I bought both my wyandottes (those were years ago and both since deceased) from breeder called Kerry something or other in Markyate, so probably near you by the sounds of it. Check the ads in the back of Practical Poultry mag and the pekinbantams.com forum as she usually advertises in both
Guest
Thanks Claret I did have a look and yes the lady is still listed, & it isnt far from me so will look into this Good pics ..wyandottes must be one of the prettiest, I did see the full version at Thornes too but like the idea of a couple of little ones thank you indie
The Dogmother
Thinking about it, she might be called Kerry Wilson. Lovely birds she had, but it might be a bit early in the year for any good stock; I'd wait a month or two, then' you'll have the pick of the crop. May or summer hatchers are always good because they don't usually moult the first winter and will keep laying right through, albeit on a reduced level. Mrs Webmuppet
My chooks all come from the Hen House which is in Thorndon (just off the Norwich to Ipswich Road A140). A chap called Stephen runs it, he's a true chooky eccentric. He's not too keen on Cubes and Eglus though
Guest
Thanks out of interest without sounding too negative why does he not like eglu/cubes?? I think wood looks much more traditional etc but my wooden duck houses was knawed at(despite being raised the negatives i could list etc) ...but curious ...to know all angles!! thanks for ur reply indie
The Dogmother
Indie, it's the traditional repsonse from the old die-hards. I only know of one chicken old-timer who likes eglus. I am slowly converting my friends though as they have seen how I haven't had any mites in the housing in the summer, whereas they have been plagued. Mrs Webmuppet
I think it's 'cause he builds wooden chook houses and thinks his are the best.........the fact that they are huge and not practical for my little garden doesn't come into it (and not very child friendly either)! His chooks are lovely though!
