amy_richard
Hi I am thinking about adding some vorverks to my hen family but have read that they can fly to some extent. Can anyone shed light onto the 'extent'. The run is surrounded by a 6ft chick wire fence, surely this ought to be adequate? Cheers
abwsco
Mine got into next doors garden when we'd not had her very long and I had to chase her to try and catch her. She then decided to fly back over the wall and flew back into the chicken enclosure. She flew around 15ft in one go:shock: I should say that she doesn't have a clipped wing as we'd forgotten to get the breeder to do it She's also used our pear tree as a launch pad twice to get over out of their bit. We've now heavily pruned the pear tree and touch wood she hasn't done it since!
thewhitehouse
My two have never shown any inclination to fly or hop onto the 6' trellis like the Barnevelder. I find them very amenable.
Aggienator
I see your Vorverk isn't named yet. Can I suggest Amelia

abwsco
Well, guess who flew over their area and into the garden yesterday. I knew I shouldn't have said she'd not done it for ages.
amy_richard
Thanks for the insight. I think I'll give it a go (with clpped wing and the removal of all possible launch pads from the run!). Interestingly I am also planning to get a barnevelder or two - someone mentioned them getting onto a 6ft trellis?
