nutterly_uts
I have a broody silky, and my eye on some silky eggs to put under her. I cannot find a 2nd hand hutch here for love nor money, and I am reluctant to spend mega bucks on a new one, when I could put that money towards my new ark. I have a metal dog crate, and large, raised cat carrier. If I attached these together to make a (very!) makeshift broody pen, would that be ok? I will take pics of what I mean quickly before it gets dark.. If this is an option, i would make it far more safe!! Carla pics below I have literally just put the components together, i would need to have a bit of a fiddle to make it safe. We have no foxes, badgers, mink here, so the only "predators" to watch are the local cats who typically don't come into our garden with the dogs. And the possible mum, who hasn't budged for a few days Edited March 30, 2009 by Guest

BeckyBoo
Did you mean that you were going to let her hatch in there? Cos I reckon it would be just fine. The only thing I would query would be wire under her feet and you probably would have to do something about that before the chicks arrived but other than that it looks fine! Obviously we would need lots of picture because silkies are just so daft looking? What would you do with the boys though? I heard a Poland cockerel crow the other day, it was positively shrieking it was so high pitched! I hope silkies aren't the same! nutterly_uts
Yes, for her to hatch in there. I can chuck down a layer of bark or auboise into the run as deep as needed. The only problem would be the jump down from the catbox for the chicks, but i could sort something i'm sure Edit to say : I will take a billion pics no problem! and dare I say it, silkies taste yummy, once you get past the black skin and meat issue!
