smanners
Skip, one of our ex batts rescued 3.1.09 has started laying mostly odd eggs. Several have had what I can only describe as 'mr whippy' tops covered with a very thin shell, some are softies and some are small eggs which contain only white and no yolks. Our 6 hybrids and 2 other ex-batts are all laying plenty of normal eggs. All the girls are fed Smallholder ex batt pellets and I have seen Skip eat and drink normally! She has access to grit and free range of all the garden. All the hens were wormed with Flubenvet a few weeks ago. Any suggestions and advice would be gratefully received ? Thanks Sophie
Janty
'Mr. Whippy eggs' are a great way of describing them. My ex-batts have also laid eggs like this. It's seems to be quite normal as one of my older hens has just started as well.
Egluntyne
It is common in older hens and ex-batts who have lived as laying machines for a large chunk of their lives. Their egg laying tackle becomes exhausted and stops working properly.
smanners
Thanks Egluntine that's reassuring We still love her loads despite the weird eggs
