Hi all,

 

Does anyone else have 2 hens like to nest at the same time?

 

I could only find one this morning so I looked in the eglu and there they were beak to bum both sitting in the nesting area. It was very sweet, lots of cooing noises and they looked so serene. Will this last?

 

I have been putting a plant saucer in there with straw/hay in as a second place in case this happened but they seem totally non-plus'd by my efforts.

 

Just wondered if anyone else finds this

There was a lovely set of photos a week or two ago of two chickens snuggling up in the next box at once:

Mine occasionally get in together when one of them is taking a long time to lay, and the other gets impatient. Perhaps they'll stop when they get more efficient?

I dont have the eglu now as have upgraded to cube with 2 more girls, but when I did and only had 2 girls they often did this..

Cookie.......squint abit, tilt your head to the left and then stick your tongue out............now I know it doesn`t help you see the big scary mouth but it mad me laugh picturing you doing it LOL!!!!!

 

I have to agree that it is a big scary mouth first and then an eglu pophole with lovely cosy chooks in second!

 

There isn`t room in my nest box for my two Orps......they try....and it starts off very polite:

 

Gin - "After you"

OSH - "No, no, no...after you my feathery friend"

Gin - " No I insist....after you lovely lady"

and after many trips in and out of the Eglu, looking at the nestbox and then looking at eachother it escalates to

Gin - "BOK BOK BOOOOOKKKK BOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Which I translate to be "For bloomin' sake you are bigger so just get in will you and i will jump on top!!!"

and OSH grumbles as she does as she is told

Hell's teeth! I haven't got asn Eglu, I have a wooden coop, so when I saw this pic I honestly thouoght "What the hell is that - it's a big open mouth with teeth!! Arrrgh!"
