SleepyFairy
Happy Easter I just wondered what everyone does with their chicken poop? I have been raking up the excess woodchip and my girl's poop from the part of the lawn where they freerange every couple of weeks and popping it on the composter. I also put their poop from the eglu tray andn the straw in the composter with bits and pieces of kitchen waste to help the composting process. Howeverrrrrrrrrrrrrr, I've run out of room in my composter (and have used lots for the garden so now have to wait another darn year!!!!) and now don't know what to do with the excess poop/woodchip I've put some on the garden as well but don't want to do this anymore as we have a small garden and i don't want it to smell for the summer I was thinking of getting a green bin for the council to collect and putting it in there but have just read that they don't take "pet litter" of any sort. What to do with the poo?????? What do other people do? Any advice greatly appreciated! Thanks Jules x Fudge Peach (who now has an unblocked crop! yay! - thanks for the maggots tip!) Plum
I have offered it to my friends who looked at me a little strangely then were quite keen. So now I am collecting it in a bin bag cos like you my composter is full.

SleepyFairy
Is this just chicken poop or is it mixed in with woodchip and bits of grass etc? do you think people would want mine as its all a bit mixed up?!!? Gosh what a great idea to freecycle it!!!!!!
Plum
I would pop your woodchip ones in the bin and keep the other. Woodchip can take a while to rot down so may not be wanted. I find mine do most at night.
SleepyFairy
Do you mean the poo in the eglu tray? Yolky
Are you sure about your green bin? I have a green bin coming and when I ordered I asked them about this and they said they would take the waste from vegetarian animals and so chook poo mixed with woodchip etc would be fine. Plum
We can't put any animal bedding in the garden collection service. Sawdust is good it'll rot down pretty quick.
SleepyFairy
Great. I think I'll start saving the poo and sawdust and see if anyone wants that on freecycle. Deffo about the bin as it says on the Bristol website no pet litter. maybe i'll give them a call.....? Thanks so much J x x x
Barkisland
Re the full composter. Don't forget to keep it damp (use a watering can if necessary), put some vegetable matter in as well as poo to even up the balance, and stir it every now & then, it should then settle enough for you to put new material on top. I put mine in the composter, but I use Aubiose, which composts very well.
4Clucks-minusOne
My bin is full too so I give it to my mum and her elderly neighbours as they all have compost bins on the go. They were really pleased with the offer. I put a sheet of newspaper in the bottom of my poo tray then tip the whole lot into a bag. Sometimes the girsl shred it for me by pulling it up through the bars. I'm sure they must stand on their heads to reach it.
