Adams Egg
All three hens free range at the weekends, one of them has been looking really quite unwell after three or four hours, and it happened again Saturday for the third time in about a month. After a while she stands hunched and tail down, refuses to move or eat treats. The following day there is no egg but she gets back to normal quickly. Yesterday however, whilst hunched, refusing to eat or move her tail remained upright, but I had to retreive her from the run and pop her in the eglu when dark. I expected the worst but there she was this morning running about as if nothing wrong, no egg though. There was a fluid like mess in the tray, didn't resemble a softee. So my question is what may cause this, the others are fine, they all eat the same things, the only thing I can think is that she has drunk some standing water from a plant tray or similar. The rest of the week she is fine. I will pop some avipro in, but the pot has run out, I have heard of ACV? what is that, does it have another name and would it help? Thanks
Chicken Licken
ACV is apple cider vinegar - som people use it in water to perk up hens who are under the weather.
chelsea
Have your girls been wormed? Hunching, quietness and tail down can be a sign of worms, I recommend worming every 3-4 months for good all round health in hens.
Adams Egg
Just wormed about a month ago, seems to have an acute phase then she is back to normal
