Hard decision

Recommended Posts

You may remember that I posted some pics of our new girls a couple of days ago and also mentioned that the sussex was a bit weary. Well, yesterday, she hardly came out of the Eglu and was still not right and the same happened this morning. I contacted the seller and they suggested taking her back round to their place.

They agreed that she was not very well and said that they could treat her but it could take some time. I really did not know what to do for the best as just to reject her seemed awful but I did not want Bella to be on her own for too long whilst we waited for the treatment (which may not have worked anyway!)

In the end I decided to take a different chook home and, whilst she is lovely (A Coral) there were some tears here for Fizz.

I do feel horrible but, if she was poorly, I didn't want the others to catch anything. As it is, I will have to keep any eye out for Bella to make sure she is ok. I disinfected the Eglu and everything so fingers crossed that these two will be ok.

Hi

what a shame i am new with the chickens but the breeder I got them from said if there were any problems to contact her etc so I think thats a good sign for us that the breeder is interested & genuine too.

At least u were able to take it back to familiar home etc

Good luck am sure u did the right thing..thats animals for us

Hope the new bird has settled in ok now

My Coral lays gorgeous, enormous eggs. They are sometimes an odd shape and I think she over does it sometimes so lays softies every so often. I give mine Limestone Flour in their mash to try to counter this.

I only paid £11 for her - seems like chicken prices are rising with their popularity!

I understand about Fizz; any animal who comes into our home is instantly loved too. That bond is a painful one when it has to be broken for any reason.

But being in familiar surroundings, where she was as a chick, would be the best thing for Fizz is she was poorly. You did the right thing...I know it feels hard now.

Cyber hugs and understanding....

Sorry to hear about Fizz.

I have a Coral Nick too, Flo, very scatty but very inquisitve.

Not sure if i should say this but I only paid £13 for my Flo! :silenced:

I was aware that prices are lower at different places but I used this lady for my chicken sitting and she is incredibly local so I figured that I would be paying more in petrol to get to one of the more reasonably priced places. So I don't mind your mentioning £13 at all!!

Also - thanks to everyone for the reassurance. As always - you lot say the right things :)
