Chook n Boo Mum

Badtempered chook!

Recommended Posts

Well, I have bitten the bullet and segregated Willow in the hopes that the other Orpies, Bluebelle and Buttercup get the chance to regrow their neck and head feathers :shameonu: !

She is in the (blue eglu) and run & is pacing up & down hissing and generally showing her displeasure - the others are ignoring her! She has also laid an egg with the thinnest shell I have ever seen in the run! Hopefully it will survive long enough to get into a cake later  !

Once it comes to bedtime, we may have a slight problem in that two of the Batties had been sleeping in the (blue eglu) in the WIR :anxious: , oh well they are all laying in (cube orange) and at least two of them have slept in him too, so I'd have thought they'd work it out for themselves quickly  !!!

How long should I leave her in "solitary"? Will a couple of days be enough, or should she stay in there all week?

I have received the Ukadex this morning (and disposable "babygrows" for me to wear whilst putting it on them  ) so the poor little mites will get a dose of that too! Will I be ok spraying it on their heads, or should I spray some on a plastic plate & apply with a cotton wool pad?

Oh the joys of alternative parenthood

p.s. one of the other girls has just laid on the grass in the garden too :? ! Fortunately, the dogs just sniffed it.....

Hope this works out for you, Wild Mum. Peep, my Fayoumi, is in solitary too (last 3 days), so I, too, would love to know how long to leave the segregration in place. Luckily, I didn't have any feather plucking (not looking forward to the day when I have to use Ukadex :vom:), but she was stopping Lady Hamilton from eating, even though there were two grubs in the run... If Peep is anything to go by, the hissing and pacing should calm down. I have been feeding mine all treats along the barrier, (Peep in the run, the others outside) which seems to help.

Good luck!

I've just been out to check and all the batties are tucked up in the (cube orange) nestbox and Willow is.......................in the middle of the (blue eglu) run

As long as she stays in the middle of the run or towards the veg patch, she will be safe, if she decides to snuggle up to the garden side, I fear for a fox making a night-time visit, as we've lifted the plastic sheeting for ventilation as the temperature has risen......now I'm feeling really bad!
