dancing cloud
I'm sure my little ex-batt girls are grateful - big ex-batt girls have been here so long they're now just spoiled madams I think having the six originals around really helped the three heavenlies come to terms with the big wide world, as they seem to have caught on very quickly - hard to remember they've only been out of their cages five weeks on Saturday. Two ate from my hands within a week - Sky still won't and just hovers around picking up anything the other two drop -and they were all capable of mischief very quickly I've found any fear is soon overcome by natural hennie nosiness "what's this big human-hen all about then?" "what's that big green thing out there?" "what sort of chicken's laid rubber eggs in our nesbox?" and once they're out, there really is no stopping them! There are lots of happy tears-in-the-eyes moments - first egg of freedom, first free range, first time they actually come to you for a stroke and a chat - but after a very short while you (and hopefully they) forget where they came from as they become real chickens Not long to go now before you find it all out for yourself and become a fully paid-up member of the ex-batt fan club - welcome aboard! mostin
Not long to go now before you find it all out for yourself and become a fully paid-up member of the ex-batt fan club - welcome aboard! Thank you, I can't think of a better fan club to be in . I'm a bit worried as I haven't heard from the co-ordinator yet , I hope it's all gone ahead as planned. I'll be gutted if the girls didn't get rescued as planned.
Egluntyne
Mine didn't know what was expeted of them at first either....although they did put themselves to bed and knew how to perch. They just stood around in a stupour, when they weren't eating. They laid from the outset . One thing....they stank to high heaven at first, but that disappeared after a few days. A bit of fresh air was what was needed. They were also very weak in the muscle dept and couldn't negotiate steps without help. It is lovely to see them learning to scratch about and sunbathe. he made me promise I wouldn't put my name down on any waiting lists until all the other girls were merged and sucessfully moved into the cube. He didn't make me promise I'll put your name down on a waiting list or two if you like!

I have no idea what he is talking about . *still secretly saving for my purple cube*
Hens@HalfMoonLane
Good luck for Saturday - what lucky girls. I've just lost 2 or my ex bats this month and have one lonely girl left. I've been considering what type of hens to get and was going down the POL pure bred route until I read your post.....and then I remembered how rewarding getting the ex bats were and immediately contacted the BHWT co-ordinator who took pity on my lonely hen I think and has squeezed my in for the following Saturday to your hens arrival but been kind enough to hold on to them until we return from holiday. So 2 set of girls have you to thank! Did you have to order your crumbs - has the farm shop on Garforth Cliff got the ex bat range in stock now? I was supposed to pick up my bag of ordered crumbs from the farm shop yesterday, you have just reminded me that I forgot . i will call in on Sat . Are you near me then? Do I have another omleteer near by?

I've been out this evening chatting to the other girls and telling them all about who's arriving tomorrow. I got the feeling their ok with it, as long as there's enough worms to go round . I promised there would be, and there's always enough cuddles .

I'm really pleased you are going to have a May of your own. I'll be away from the computer now, but I'll be thinking of you all day! Hope it goes well.
