wilkole
We are new chicken owners (4 weeks in) and our chooks are producing runny brown poo's. We dont think it is all of them, just one in particular. They are being fed pellets, corn and oyster shell as well as baked eg shells as some of our friends do, they had an apple yesterday which we cored and peeled. Any ideas please? Redwing
A dose of wormer may be a good idea, Flubenvet is your best bet. Some hens just do runny poos, I have one whose poo looks like tar (classy!) and it ruins her otherwise immaculate plumage Is she well otherwise? jade&mike
dont worry too much, give them a bowl of probiotic yogurt, it will settle their tums
Ain't Nobody Here
I give my girls bokashi bran and garlic powder in their pellets. The bran really helps to firm up the poops and the bran/garlic reduce the smell and are good for the hens' health .
Abbey Road Girl
Although I am very unhappy with Wiggly Wigglers because of poor customer service, Bokashi bran is amazing in transforming chicken poo into something pretty solid and non-horrible. Hen Watch
My girls were quite squitty when they first arrived but settled down after a month. So may be just settling in. If not, I too (like ANH) give my girls Garlic Powder (from horse feed supply shops) to make poop less smelly and sometimes feed them Bokashi Bran (from Omlet shop or Wiggly Wiggers online) to firm up poop.
