Cate in NZ
Great news Richard, and HennyPenny. It looks idyllic I hope that it all goes smoothly from here, that your house sells quickly, and that you soon have sheep wandering around your neighbours fields

Richard T
Thanks Kate. We've had a steady trickle of viewers at our current house this week, so there's hope still. And we're getting a copy of the survey that the last lot had done, so we can find out how much is really wrong with the house and decide whether we should fix it up before considering any more offers (and risk more buyers pulling out), or whether we should reduce the price, or do some other option that I can't think of at the moment. Guest
chimneys look a bit dodgy up there mate - we can fix 'em for you - needs some mortar - 400 quid?? and my mate's got some left-over tarmac - level over your driveway for you - just 200 quid... we spotted some loose slates - very dangerous - could decapitate you one day - we can fix 'em for you - 200 quid.. we can start tomorrow - can you give us half the cash up-front? Linda
Woo hoo Richard!! Great news! Don't listen to those cowboy builders though - it's ocvious they have no idea what they're talking about!
Nicola H
Well done Richard lets hope your house resells quickly, surveyors are the bane of my life. The people buying my house had a full independant survey done and because he couldn't find anything structural to be done he wrote that it wasn't obvious where the drains were and that the buyers needed to find this out before they committed themselves, thankfully the buyers have a brain and just said well surely they will be on the building regs..............Honestly talk about a jobs worth...... We were both really angry because this has set things back a week, but hopefully we should exchange this Friday hurray.......

He has to keep one step ahead of Esther Rantzen. Yes Sarah, the cottage is pink. But it's quite a pale pink, I think. It's very nice. We'll be going to measure things soon. I wonder which tape measure I should take? Or should I buy a new one? Perhpas one of those laser ones? It's exciting. Richard T

Richard T
fingers crossed for the house, have you followed all the House Doctor's golden rules?? http://www.housedoctor.co.uk/ Phil Cripes!! Have you seen the cost of her courses? We've just stuck to the basic - and cheap - rule of keeping things tidy. Anyway, I'm returning to this thread to tell you that we are due to complete on the cottage next Monday - the 23rd. We're currently in the middle of packing. What fun. And today I've spoken to BT and got our new phone number (the boy at the BT call centre, when he said, "Yeeess.", sounded like the weird Scottish hotelier fom Little Britain ). And today we accepted the latest offer for our old wreck of a house (the 3rd time we've "sold" it), at a price which is far less than the house is worth, but I won't believe we've actually sold it until we've handed over the keys. I should be more excited but this has dragged on for so long I think I'll reserve half the excitement for when we actually walk through that door and open the champagne, and the other half for when we are finally rid of the old house. (Or it could be that my biorhythms are a bit off beat today. ) Richard T

Richard T
Only three days to go! The champagne is in the fridge. We've been to Argos and bought a load of boxes. Our solicitor has got all of our money. The removal van is arranged for Monday morning and I've hired a van too (of course it's necessary! ) . I've got next week off work (and I manage to miss a monthly team meeting too!!) and HennyPenny's got half-term. So by this time on Monday we should be guzzling champagne and unloading the chickens into their new garden!! And I think I can detect some excitement returning to displace the anxiety and stress that I've been feeling this week. Richard T
Cate in NZ
Great news Richard. I'll be thinking of you on Monday. Guest
Only three days to go! The champagne is in the fridge. won't you have to unplug the fridge in order to move it - thus rendering the whole chilling-process redundant?? Phil

Richard T
Phil the sermon writing pedant strikes again He's just miffed that I won't let him (aka Pedantic Padre ), Drinking Dave and Dodgy Deutsch help with the move. Phil - the fridge is too big for the new house so we'll be leaving it for our (eventual) buyers, but fear not, we'll transport the champagne in a cool-box with ice.
