Summer jobs

Recommended Posts

I'm currently trying to find a summer job, but am a bit stuck at the minute, I've e-mailed Johannes to see if I can help on the Omlet stand at the Bath and West during the holiday and he just told me to keep an eye out on the website and forum.

Have also e-mailed joules to see if they want any temp staff for the summer for their show work too, but apart from that I have very few ideas as not many people seem to be taking on summer temps at the minute.

Any ideas?

I've not got any bright ideas - my DD is currently in Nottingham trying to find a summer job. If not up there she is going to try to get a job in London.

I think you will just have to apply to as many places as possible and keep plugging away at it. I know the job page in our local paper is down to just one page now, its just not good out there.

Good luck and I hope you find something. :D

Table top sales & car boots with someone who obviously has a car!

Garden centres, pricking out plants, potting on & watering!

Selling ice cream at shows.

Summer camp helpers / Summer kids activity helpers.

Face painter at local events.

Can't really think of any more & whatever jobs are available, you'll be one in a big queue for every job! Sorry.

Sign up with several temping agencies in your area and subscribe to monster.co.uk and totaljobs and look at the Guardian's job section (and other newspapers online) and sign up for alerts for any temporary work on them. It helps to have other people/computers looking for work for you as well as going out in person looking for stuff.

Well my DD has got a job and starts tomorrow - so there is hope out there

Just got to hope that some of her lucky job charm rubs off on me now. I've applied for a couple of jobs but not heard a dicky bird. Not sure if its the fact I've not worked for nearly 22 years.......

Sadly this is like the worst time to look for a job as there is so much competition. I would try to enjoy NOT having to work ! thats my advice :)

Funnily enough I know that, I don't need to be told. It's all well and good to enjoy NOT working, but I really need the money in order to actually afford to go and do things during the summer.

You can take in ironing or do a bit of cleaning for people. Offer to put in bedding plants & plant up tubs & baskets. They buy they plants, you do the labouring - a lot of older people would appreciate this! Basic gardening, painting their sheds & fences etc.

Buy fruit cheaply & make jam to sell as well as your eggs.

Trying my best to help you here - been there as a student! But in those days there was plenty of agency work about...

picking peanuts on a production line

Making marzipan & chocolate spread

Peeling onions

packing soap powder

pushing the meat down in pork pies with my thumb!:lol:

Packing frozen fish

Clearing away airline meals :vom:

I've also done..

Working in a cake decorating shop

Ironing

Cleaning

Good luck

Why not make some flyers on the computer for grass cutting and general garden clearing up. Then post them round your neighbourhood.

My brother in law says he turns down people every week wanting someone to cut lawns regular over the summer.

I'm also trying to apply to work as a summer temp with joules, now have the application form, the form said I should have a car and be able to drive, but when I asked her in an e-mail about it, they didn't say anything about it. I'll put it in the extra notes to say that I can't...I can rely on public transport-what's wrong with that!

Ironing or cleaning would be ok. Just talked to a fellow dog walker and she does cleaning. She says she's not been affected really by the recession so people obviously still need it done. A couple of other people I know do it as well.

I used to do ironing. I just put a couple of ads in the paper and I think if I remember rightly I charged a £1 a 1lb for ironing.

Its a bit early yet for fruit farms etc but what about ringing around and seeing if they take on people?

Just a few suggestions but why not print off a good lot of CVs and covering letters and take them into any shops in town - but take them in not post - always good to let a potential employer see you :D

And also - do you get many tourists in the summer (sorry I dont now much about where you live!)? If so i bet any cafe's/pubs serving food would be in need of waitresses! Or any local tourist attractions - they always need summer staff as summer is a busy period!

What about supermarkets?? I worked in morrisons a couple of years ago and we always needed staff in summer due to kids being on holiday so busy and lots of the staff with children taking time off!

Last summer I wanted an extra job and looked on a few websites but also just emailed a few of the shops in the airport close to me with my CV asking if they needed summer staff and ended up working in a little shop there with a decent wage. Not sure if there;s an airport near you but what about train stations? im sure their shops get busy in the summer!

If you can't find a job - why not volunteer at a local animal centre? it shows committment and maturity and shows you can be trusted so ultimately will help you get a job!

Hope some of that helps!

Could you ask anyone you know if they need any help at work?

I've helped people do londs if things

Last year I worked with my neighbour in an office, which was good, and it looks good for applying for other jobs and uni.
