Someone put me on the naughty step!

Recommended Posts

I had 12 Shetland eggs arrive today (they're still at the Post Office) and had asked a a chap I know for a few Salmon Fav eggs to put in at the same time in case the others had a bad journey. So I went up tonight (he has the most amazing set-up :mrgreen: ), and he had a box with 9 Favs and 3 Lavendar Araucanas :shock: Well it would have been rude not to accept them.......then Anna spotted a run with little Mottled Pekins and was admiring them, and suddenly a flower pot with 5 little pekin eggs appeared :roll:

I have no willpower........and a 24 egg incubator :anxious::oops:

:lol::lol::lol:

My incy gets switched on again next week and I'm still struggling to decide what and how many :lol: White Silkies, Large Frizzle Polands, Houdans, Speckled Sussex, Dorkings and maybe black Orps. Space for 25 so have figured out umpteen combinations. The only thing I know for sure is I need a bigger incubator :lol::lol:

Allison, it's a chap I got to know through Practical Poultry forum, he stays just outside East Kilbride and has an amazing garden with ponds etc. He has lots of runs and cages with various chicken breeds and budgies and little exotic looking birds I know nothing about (but some of them were pink :shock: ).

I usually hatch various breeds that I fancy and just keep one girl of each breed and sell the rest :D

Clare, it's never entered my head to have bantams (well apart from my disastrous Frizzle hatch a couple of years ago) but those little Mottled pekins were so cute shuffling around as if they have no legs :lol:

I don't think the egg was damaged in the post, more by a clumsy hen. I always examine the eggs closely before they go in the incy, some cracks are easily missed. Hope yours arrive safely, Andrea

I am awaiting the parcel delivery man with baited breath - too excited (can you tell this is my first time hatching :lol: ). Didn't come with letter post this morning, hoping they won't end up sitting in a post office overnight. They definately left in the post yesterday afternoon on first class post. aaaaaaggghhh so so impatient :oops:

It must be something in the weather or with the post office :lol: one of my eggs has a hairline crack as well. Think I'll take it as a sign - couldn't cope if all 6 had hatched and turned out to be girls :D not enough space!

So I now have 5 eggs waiting to be be set tomorrow night - 2 Black Red araucana and 3 Black araucana - please please can one of the Black Red be a girl :pray::pray:

Disaster! Phoned up the Domestic Fowl Trust to place the order for the majority of my eggs (LF Frizzle Polands coming from somebody else) and they're not selling either White Silkie or Houdan eggs at the moment :wall: So now I've got to search for those elsewhere. 5 Speckled Sussex and 5 Dorking eggs reserved though :D

we bought day old chicks for the table so would like to hatch some of the french breed type ourselves, either that or Ixworths but they take longer to mature I think

Other than that I would like to raise some cream legbars and Marans for pets (boys to go in stews, sorry)

Oh it's not my place, a friend lives in the highest house in the highest village....Wanlockhead....it's about 40 mins drive from me. Some of my young boys were on The One Show, crowing away in the background while Michelle got interviewed.......the producer asked her if she could keep them quiet :lol:
