please can somebody help, i have a 29 week hybrid who has never layed. She has had the sneezez which we treated with baytryl from the vets 2 weeks ago. I can get 2 fingers between the pelvic bones.

Although we love our girls we bought them to perform, we are going to give her another 2 weeks otherwise she will get the chop. the other 3 are laying ok. has anybody got any ideas what is wrong and how we can encourage her to start laying? thanks

Give her a chance . Two of mine were 30 weeks before they laid and the other, despite laying 10 tiny eggs at 21 weeks, then stopped till she was 39 weeks.

 

Please don't give her "the chop", at least rehome her if you can't wait for the eggs .

Whoah! Steady on! 29 weeks is still very young, and given that she has been ill, it very probably has have set her back a bit.

 

I would make sure that she eats good quality pellets and fesh water daily, with apple cider vinear in it, or maybe a tonic such as Lifeguard.

My welsummer was 49 weeks before she laid, they all vary. Give her time and if you'r still not happy then at least try and rehome her first.

I've just lost 2 of my hens to egg problems and am looking for a friend for my remaining hen. I'm not bothered whether I get eggs or not so if you are still looking to rehome her and live near Yorkshire she may be able to come to me.

One of mine was at least 40 weeks old before she started laying - you might just have to be patient

Please give her some more time-Daisy was 18 weeks when we got her and didn't aly any eggs for ages-she was well over 30 weeks.Once she started she has laid without fail and we've just had a huge 113g egg from her today

I had to wait until week 32 to get an egg from my Amber, the eggs are small and irregular, but they're getting bigger every day! She's my little !

They reckon that the later they come into lay, the longer they will lay for. I had two gingernuts - the one that came into lay first laid almost continuously for 2 years then stopped completely. The one that was a late starter carried on for 3 years and would still be going strong if she hadn't had to be PTS because of an injury.
