Egluntyne
Is this the first Christmas Tree of 2006?? I couldn't believe my eyes...I was waiting in my car for the lights to change at the pelican crossing outside the Wheatsheaf on Ecclesall Road South in Sheffield. I glanced into the pub and there it was..... a blooming great christmas tree all lit up and full of bling...... How depressing.....It is October 5th for goodness sake. Can anyone beat that? Guest
It is wrong I have a colleague at work who hates christmas and will insist on eating mince pies in the middle of summer That should be against the law, you should only be allowed to eat mince pies at christmas, easter eggs at easter We have a little tradition in our house, we only buy Baileys at christmas and we aren't allowed to open it until we have broken up from work for the hols and then we can enjoy it. Silly I know, but there you go
theherd123
That should be against the law, you should only be allowed to eat mince pies at christmas, easter eggs at easter Would just like to slightly alter the above if i may?! 'That should be against the law, you should never be allowed to eat mince pies no matter what time of year and you should be able to eat chocolate, even egg shaped, whenever you feel like it!' Last weekend we were in an M&S and they had (American) Hallowe'en stuff, Christmas stuff, including mince pies with "eat by" dates of 10 October and advent calendars, AND hot cross buns. The world's gone mad! Richard T
Guest
Chocolate yes, only egg shaped at easter and they should only be sold for the month before Very soon, there will be christmas decs up all year (I'm sure there are certain houses that keep them up all year now) and easter bunnies walking around every day. We will have anarchy in the streets: father christmas will be fighting with the easter bunny to deliver their presents to children first

Guest
as I think I have said before - just about any kind of family tradition you can start (and keep) is a great idea... one of our christmas ones is fore us all to go to the local department store and choose a new tree decoration each.. the kids can all remember which ones trhey have bought over the years... Guest
That should be against the law, you should only be allowed to eat mince pies at christmas, easter eggs at easter But I LIKE mince pies, and will happily sit down to mince pie and cream in the middle of July. Egluntyne
It's at Parkhead, next to the Cricket Club, just before the turn down Abbey Lane. It is now called the Toby Carvery or somesuch , but to locals it will forever be the Wheatsheaf.
buffie
I love this time of year, can't believe the christmas shop opens at frosts garden centre this weekend though! . The MK centre has a great christmas display every year it opens on the 7th of Nov I think. I also buy a new decoration for the the new additions (pets), always seems to be one or two (we have 6 since last christmas ). if there isn't a new addition I just buy something to represent our family. Linda
That's a lovely idea. I'm sure my daughters will be very happy to go out and choose some new decorations with me.
Cate in NZ
one of our christmas ones is fore us all to go to the local department store and choose a new tree decoration each.. the kids can all remember which ones trhey have bought over the years... Phil We do that as well. When son was newborn, (late November) we were given a "baby's first Christmas" Christmas tree bauble for him as one of my friends simply couldn't resist it. That started the tradition and now they each have their own box of their baubles & Christmas decorations and we buy a new one every year. Initially they all went onto the family tree, but a couple of years ago they started having their own (small) trees in their bedrooms, bedecked with their own baubles. They plan then to take their own Christmas decorations box with them when they finally leave home. It's become one of the daft highlights of the Christmas preparations, going out as a family to buy 2 special Christmas tree decorations
Guest
that's exactly how it is in our house except me and the missus buy one each as well, and we're not so organised as to have seperate boxes and they still all go on the one tree.... I much prefer trees that have a total mixture of different stuff. I hate themed trees... Phil
Charlottechicken
Guilty of a themed tree here I love winter so my tree is covered in iridescent decorations and shimmers like it is covered in ice and snow, looks really nice, honest, and cost less than £20 to decorate
Guest
oops!! I should have know there'd be one... let me rephrase that.. I hate themed trees except for Charlotte's - which looks really great! Phil
Guest
Our tree is just a mixture of all sorts of things, so not themed. There are things the children have made at school (some are decidedly tatty looking now, but still go on the tree). One of the best things is going to choose the tree. This is a bit of a new thing as we have only started having a real tree a few years ago Dan usually takes Harry and Jules because there isn't enough room in the car for us all and they come back with a lovely real tree and then we decorate it We do get the tree quite early as we all love christmas especially Dan as it is his birthday as well (christmas day)
Mrs Frugal
Oh dear ! Ours is themed - well colour schemed to be precise. The decorations are all gold, red and orange. Looks really pretty !
One Man Banned
I too am slightly guilty of a themed tree! Tastefully done of course in Silver and Purple with white lights, oh and a great big white feathery star on the top - we could always open a gallery in DECEMBER! when we have our tree's up just to admire each others efforts ? A xx
Mrs Frugal
We did last year, Andrew - or was it the year before? Hmmm. It was an album in Meet The Egluowners and not many people posted photos so we'll have to do better this year .
Cate in NZ
Sounds like a good idea Andrew and Kate I didn;t post a photo last year as we didn't have a proper tree We were away for Christmas so decided not to bother. This year it's shaping up as a big family, all at mine bash, so I'll be having a tree and all the trimmings (except tinsel, I have a very strange aversion to tinsel, it makes me feel all funny when I touch it ), and will take some photos As long as late entries are allowed Edited October 6, 2006 by Guest
Guest
my mother-in-law used to string up all their christmas cards (I staple mine together and hang them down the walls - we get several hundred...) anyway - she had these strings and little red pegs that she had owned for decades (desperately fiddly) - and she used to hang the cards in themes... snow scenes... crib scenes... reindeer... robins... how potty is that??
