A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Or is it just me? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phorm Sounds a bit intrusive.
bluekarin
Nope, not just you. My hubby, who is in IT, read aout this last year and is really quite angry that these things are allowed to happen
Patricia W
I'm not very technical, but it sounds like a variant of other systems - used by political parties and others ( planning hospitals, schools etc) to identify where potential voters, users of service etc live, and their lifestyle. It's based on buying information from companies like Tesco's which have loyalty cards. It's big business. So everytime you swipe your loyalty card you are providing free information which is sold on to others...
ChrisP
I'm confused, what exactly is it? (I read the wikipedia page but it confused my already-too-tired brain )
bluekarin
I understand that loyalty cards gather information, but you can choose whether or not to have one, and with Phorm you can't opt out. Heres some interesting reading for you http://www.antiphormleague.com/eu.php These are quotes from Sir Tim Berners Lee, Inventor of the World Wide Web, Director of the World Wide Web Consortium https://www.dephormation.org.uk/index.php I for one don't believe its just for deciding what ads to show you or what pages to direct you to. Deep packet inspection sounds just too insidious. Just had a chat with hubby and he said this has actually been going on since 1999/2000
Egluntyne
Even the tax man will know if you have been paid in cash for a job and not declared it by looking at your loyalty card transactions and checking them off against your bank statement. We are being watched at every turn.
