puddleduck
Hi, I need some netting so I can give my chickens some extra room but really can't afford the omlet netting at £61.22!!! Are there any alternatives and where could I get it from? (also how much?) Thanks
Lewis
You could always use standard chicken mesh and poles stuck in the ground to make an enclosure. It might not look as good, but as long as you can see they're safe from foxes it could be ok.
puddleduck
good point, would rather something green and pretty though!
chick wiggle
We went for the cheaper alternative, found some good green wire mesh £20 from wilkinsons for 10mtrs. After wanting more and more it ended up costing us more than if we had gone for omlets netting! So shop carefully and dont make the same mistake we did trying to save a bit of money. Also I think the omlet netting looks more moveable if thats an important point for you.
puddleduck
that sounds good, its going to be semi permanent (until I can build a WIR) I don't need much but am not sure how easy its going to be as the ground is very uneven! (ie steps, walls etc!!!)
Ain't Nobody Here
I bought some green canes from B&Q recently which blend into the garden well . You'll need something to peg the netting down with to stop the chickens digging underneath (tent pegs work well).
Alma
Hi, The Omlet netting may seem expensive but remember, if you only need a small amount, you could sell the remainder. Lots of people may need a shorter length of Omlet netting. Alma
tania
We got some fantastic green netting and an electrifying kit from an internet company. It was about £166 inc next day delivery, so cheaper than the Omlet by a small amount. I will find the company name when I get home and post it on here later. Ruskie
We got some orange netting, like the sort put round roadworks, from Wickes which was only around £10 for 10 metres. We also bought around half a dozen of the black stakes to thread through the netting and poke in the ground @£2 per stake. It is very easily reconfigured and although a bit bright was a cheap way to create a playpen for the 2 girls we got 4 weeks ago now.
