Funerals

Recommended Posts

I used to want to be cremated - but I would now like to be put in a woodland with an oak tree planted on top!! In any kind of compostable coffin!

I love trees - so I could help one grow and in a few hundred years time it'll confuse the archeologists no end to find all these bodies planted under trees - they will come up with some explanation about it all - probably that it was an oofering to a mighty tree god or something. .........Which isn't far off the truth!

Im registered as an organ donor and carry the card and was really suprised in my medical law lectures when we were asked how many people were and only about 3 others actually had done it but most people said they would want to but hadnt done anything about it. We really need an opt-out system like most of europe rather than out opt-in one!!! Ive made sure my parents etc know that i want to donate and that if they decide otherwise (they still have a say even though im on the register) ill come back to haunt them lol. I just dont see why anyone would not want to donate and potentially save many lives - you dont need a body or organs when your dead but they could help someone else live - wheres the decision there?

As for funerals i cant be doing with the whole church thing. I went to a church funeral for a friend last year who died far too young and it was a joint funeral with 3 other members of her family (car crash) and was horrible in my opinion. So impersonal and not at all like her personality. The gathering of her friends afterwards who all had a glass of her favourite drink and just remembered all the good times and played our favourite songs and danced just as we'd sooo many times in the past with her, and then we released 21 balloons from the park where we used to go after school. I think id just forget the church bit and rather have a cardboard coffin decorated with photos of all my family and friends and have everyone write messages while they have a few drinks and a party and just remove my body later when everyones trailed off. Not sure on teh whole cremation of burial thing...hmmmmm

a cha I knew a few years ago organised his funeral and wake when he had his cancer diagnosis, he had the wake BEFORE he died, he said he wanted to have a drink with his friends (acutally said I'm not having those tightwads drinking booze at my expense without me being there):lol::lol:

I just read an interview with Alex Kingston & she said that as they didn't want hymns at her wedding, they had all the congregation sing 'Its a wonderful world' instead.

It struck me as a lovely thing to do & if I do have to have a service of some sort, this is something that I think would be really nice :P

i've been planning my funeral for ages, not in a morbid way, but i just keep changing my mind. i'm definitely going to be cremated, don't want hymns i want a couple of fall out boy tracks. for my grand entrance i want 'I don't care what you think' and as the curtains close before i go to the oven i want 'thanx for the memories'. i want either a cardboard or a willow coffin, people can wear what they want but if they wear black they need to add some sparkle. i want everyone to go off to a hall and have a damn good knee's up  as for my ashes, i'd like to be sprinkled either by a beautiful quiet lake or in the sea. but i'm sure i'll change my mind again
