Green Day tickets - rant.

Recommended Posts

The Green Day tickets went on sale today & I thought that I would take the daughters,as we all love them, especially Cleo & she has never been to a gig before.

Well, I am furious

There was an upper limit of how many each person (by name) & credit card (by numer) could buy.................of 2!!!

So, I couldn't go for seated as chances were that when I bought the single ticket,we wouldn't be seated together.

Also, as its by card number as well as name I would have had to use Hubbys card for the second transaction.which I didn't have with me..............& what if I got the first 2 tickets but couldn't get a third?

PLUS, they charge you a booking fee of £5 & a postage fee of £5 for EACH transaction, bringing the total of the whole thing up by £20 :evil::evil:

Yes Martin,they are :?

I would have paid it if I could have bought 3 tickets straigt off, but a limit of 2 is just ridiculous in my mind.

It would have meant me driving them to the O2, & sitting in the car, listening to one of my favourite bands from the car park.

Plus, as Cleo has never experienced a gig before,I wanted to be with her,you know?

And darn it, I wanted to see them too *stamps foot*

It is ridiculous, I suppose it's to stop people from selling them for stupid prices on Ebay  but 2? That's just silly! I'd say 5 most...at the least, you should complain, they rip us off every chance they get.

Good luck with the tickets :)

Football tickets are different - they don't want the "undesirables" getting tickets - they are actually illegal to sell on too.

Never heard of a 2 per transaction limit before though - seems very odd. As for selling thing on - I do it to fund other stuff - my V ticket this year has been ENTIRELY funded by the MJ tickets I bought and sold on - only sold one pair for profit mind - sold the other pair at face value.

Really looking forward to V as well and not feeling guilty about spending money either!

I think that we can say thank you to the Ebay re-sellers for this .... it's a strange ticket limit though - the usual number is 6 per person. Too many people are now buying tickets solely to sell them at a profit on Ebay, IMO the sooner Ebay ban the resale of concert tickets the better. Every person on the phone/web buying tickets to resell is stopping a genuine fan getting one - then causing an atificial shortage of tickets and taking advantage of fans by trying to turn a profit... Don't get me started!!!

In answer to the OP, the charges on the tickets get worse every time... how many processing/administration/postage/etc fees can they think of?!

Shame I love concerts so much or I'd take a stand

Ebay should NEVER be banning the sale of concert tickets. There is no restriction on selling them and Ebay are offering people a choice of outlets. If you buy tickets through Ticketmaster they have THEIR OWN resale site!!

Individuals selling a few tickets to turn a profit is not an issue, reselling concert tickets isn't illegal (football ones are due to violent fans being banned from buying them).

As a genuine fan I also welcome the chance to be able to buy tickets on Ebay. This year I didn't buy a V ticket as I was going to be on holiday - I got home the same night to find Mum on the phone changing the holiday - tickets were sold out and even though I'm local (there is a special deal) I couldn't buy one. So Ebay has answered, yes the ticket was slightly more than box office but that was why I got the MJ tickets - to cover it.

What is ruining it for fans is not a few individuals buying and selling a few tickets but the companies that are doing it - I don't know how they get the tickets but they do - and sell them on at huge profits. Actually I do have a good idea of how they get the tickets. Google that MJ tour - see the company "Get me in" For the tickets I sold on Ebay - in an Auction so they found their own level the current price on there is £768 EACH!!! Nearly double what I sold a pair for. This site is a TICKETMASTER company!!!!!

Ebay are preventing the fans being ripped off by sites like this.

I'm sorry, but the sheer number of tickets on Ebay within half an hour of a big concert going on sale shows that there are plenty people buying tickets to sell on... and often at a large profit by setting high reserve prices.

Surely by selling a set of tickets at a profit to cover the extra cost of your V ticket (someone else's profit) you've overcharged a MJ fan for two tickets that could have been available to them to buy at face value if you hadn't bought them to sell on? Just as someone has overcharged you for a V ticket? I'm sure you're not making a huge profit from this, but there are people buying up tickets for popular concerts with no intention of going... they simply are making money out of people who couldn't get tickets when they went on general sale. The reason for the shortage of tickets is that people who don't want to go to the concert buy them to sell at a profit... and so it is a vicious circle

You say Ebay won't ban ticket sales, and you're right... but look no further that the fact that Ebay are making a FORTUNE in fees from these sales. They really don't have your or mine best interests at heart... they are a business first and foremost. And, sure, Ticketmaster have a "reselling" service... why? because they too are a business and they were missing out on a nice little earner while Ebay had cornered the market.

The only people losing out here are genuine fans who are denied the opportunity to buy concert tickets on release at face value. This is my opinion and I'm sure others will disagree, but ho-hum, so is life 8)

Actually I think it shows that certain businesses are using Ebay to sell on tickets - as there is a restriction on how many an individual can buy you can't believe these are being sold by individuals - person I bought my V ticket off (fixed price) had more to sell than one person would have been able to buy. In my experience buying tickets for a big selling concert is not that easy and if you are lucky enought to get your full amount it's not then possible to be lucky enough on a second credit card - you simply can't do it quickly enough. I firmly believe that there is an artificial market being pushed by the big companies here.

I didn't overcharge anyone - they paid what they were willing to pay from an auction. Last year I bought and sold a few tickets, I won most but I lost on a couple - market forces. The biggest profit I've ever got though was for MY ALL TIME FAVORITE band. You couldn't get a more genuine fan than me and I had to sell my tickets for the first gig - then I bought a pair on Ebay for a later date and ended up having to sell them too - again for a profit, even though I'd already paid over face value. Last pair I bought was for a concert I finally could make BUT I never found anyone to go with. So I sold my second ticket on Ebay. The concert was local and so was the chap I sold it to, he collected the ticket from me (seated) and told me he already had standing tickets but had bought this one as his wife wasn't keen on standing. I can only guess she didn't want to sit on her own as the seat was empty - despite him having paid double the ticket price. This finally convinced me that some people have more money than sense!!!!

I'm still very interested in the original rant on this thread - Green Day. Plenty of tickets available on that Ticketmaster site. You have to be an "approved" seller to sell though there. Am I cycnical in believing that many of these tickets are actually being held back then sold on at inflated prices by the ticket sellers rather than individuals?? Of course even if this is way off the mark Ticketmaster still profit twice, firstly from when the tickets are sold through them and secondly when they grab commission from their resale site. Actually they are as big a rip off as Ebay - who now insist on getting 2 lots of commission - one on the selling fees and one on the PayPal fees!!

Its sold out now, but on reflection we didn't really want to tackle to horrid drive to the O2 anyhow, so I will look out for another great band doing a gig at Wembley or something.

Still think 2 per household/credit card is just the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard

I think it's the "pre-sale" sites that make obtaining tickets so difficult.

As an example, some of the recent Specials gigs were sold out before the tickets were made available to the general public and also advertised on ebay a couple of days before the date of sale.

If you can't beat em, join em.

http://www.livenation.co.uk/promo/presale.

Register with this site and you get presale options for advance bookings usually two days before the general sale date.

Are you or Cleo registered on the official Green Day fan website Cinnamon?

Im not sure if they have anything set up on there but Im registered on with the Foo Fighters site, (went to 2 concerts) and both times tickets went on "presale" to fans and the Foo Fighters fan site sent us an e mail with a special link and password to buy tickets the day before general sale.

I'd also recommend going General Admission/standing and not seated - that way you would get tickets all together without being worried where you are sat. At Wembley last year it was amazing in the crowd on the pitch - yes we stood for about 8 hours, but well worth it. 8)

Yep, that was really what we really wanted - standing tickets, but what if I bought 2, then couldn't get the other 1?

They sold out soooo quickly.

Anyhow,I have given it up as a bad job now,

Last post from me on this ....

If someone with a fistful of tickets stands outside the venue selling them for more than face value they're a ticket tout (and we know what most concert go-ers think of them).... if the same thing happens on Ebay it's giving people a choice? You won't convince me and I will personally never buy tickets on Ebay... but not everyone has the same opinion and good luck with your ticket sales while that continues.

Nothing personal and in no way did I mean to give the impression that I thought that you were making a business out of this.

Live and let live... we all have different opinions (the only thing we will agree on is chickens)

LOL I'm sure we will agree on more than just one thing.

Last point from me though - sometimes FANS stand outside with a fistfull of tickets (well a few) for sale. Last year my friends had to sell some V tickets outside, as they had all been there on the Saturday and a few people had to leave Sunday for their holiday but had weekend tickets - the remaining people sold them outside on the Sunday morning. Another mate made the mistake of organising a big group of teachers and sixth formers to go to see Motorhead with him (he is MAD about them, sees them every time and thinks everyone he knows MUST want to go with him). On the night he was left with 4 tickets in his hand and sold them outside - to individuals not touts. If I had wanted V tickets for he Sunday I would have gone along and bought one outside as this must hapen a lot.
