Cinnamon
As you may remember, our refuse collection is changing & I need some advice, please. We got our wheelies yesterday (YAY!), & a list of what to put in where, but we use a lot of wipes - Flash Wipes,Domestos wipes & most of all facial cleansing wipes. With 3 girls in the house using 2-3 a day, we use a fair few of these & really like them. The Facial wipes in particular have me baffled as they say both recyclable & not on the packaging, so I am assuming that the actual wipe is non recyclable, but the packet they come in is? Wondered if anyone out there could enlighten me on this???
Yolky
Have you tried using muslin cloths instead of face wipes? It would work out cheaper in the end.
Minnie the Moocher
I had the most divine facial where the practitioner used muslin cloths dipped in hot water infused with lavender oil. Personally I'd ditch the wipes. I used to use them but guilt finally got the better of me as they are so wasteful. For my YS's sticky hands and face (he is now 3) I have a kitchen drawer full of those very thin terry flannels (the sort that dry really quickly and wring out to almost dry easily). I sling them in the wash after one or two uses. I really don't know about the wipes' suitability for recycling, but I'd imagine they are not recyclable. Egluntyne
I use terry flannels for cleansing too. I Just bung em in the wash when used. Instead of domestos wipes for round the loo, I use a spray bottle of ecover and a piece of kitchen paper for the daily wipe round. It goes in the bin. Spray bottle and microfibre cloths for all other cleaning. Tons cheaper and much more eco friendly.
Guest
if you use moist toilet tissue instead (to wipe your face) you can flush that.
Cinnamon
Well, we won't be swapping from wipes in a hurry, but I have found out that they are non recyclable now, although I may have sourced some more eco friendly ones.
Angus Arran Chooks
Hi Cinnamon Just come back from the Co-Op. They have wipes by Verdante which were biodegradable and I think they were organic too - just took a fleeting glance. They were beside the household cleaners. Didnt investigate face wipes. cathybc
Glad you have found out the answer to your question, but I just wanted to add that I think muslin cloths are brilliant for the face too. Edited May 3, 2009 by Guest
Kalu
Hi I used to use face wipes (and baby wipes) for facial cleansing all the time until i tried Liz Earle muslin cloths and cleanser - it is heaven! And is amazing the amount of grime it removes. i know i sound like a salesperson for them but it really is great stuff. Well worth a try and you could each put your initial on the corner of your cloths so you know whose is whose.
Charlottechicken
Well, we won't be swapping from wipes in a hurry Have you tried muslin cloths though? They are really good, and dry very quickly I also use old cut up flannels for make-up removal as well, as I stopped buying cotton wool this year
The Dogmother
I use terry flannels for cleansing too. I Just bung em in the wash when used. Spray bottle and microfibre cloths for all other cleaning. Tons cheaper and much more eco friendly. I do the same, the white facecloths get boiled up in Napisan after use. I use loo paper and cleanser to remove 'work face'
